My Earth Dream
The mixing sessions for the CD were completed at Thin Ice Studios in England with Karl Groom (THRESHOLD). The mastering is currently taking place at the Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland with Mika Jussila.
The orchestra recordings for the new EDENBRIDGE CD took place in Prague in October. EDENBRIDGE was reportedly supported by the 65-piece Czech Film Orchestra (consisting of musicians from the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Czech State Opera Orchestra). The orchestra, which was previously involved with recordings for renowned Hollywood productions, is heard on nine out of ten songs plus the intro. Lanvall's (guitar, keyboards) orchestral arrangements were recently put into the final score.

Another Paradise
With their previous two releases “Feeding The Fire” (2004) and “Let The Demon Rock N Roll” (2005) the Italian melodic rockers put their focus promotion wise on the lead vocals of AXE singer Bob Harris, but with their third effort Bob Harris just handles the backing vocals. Keyboarder Alessandro Del Vecchio stepped in as new lead singer and he does a truly superb job. It’s extremely helpful that “Another Paradise” contains the strongest songs in the history of EOF so far, which are reminding me of the pompy melodic rock stuff from AXE, GUILD OF AGES and the mighty C.I.T.A. which massive keyboards all over the place. No doubt about it, “Another Paradise” is a clear winner for melodic rock fans.

Down To The Bone
2003 was a watershed year for singer/songwriter Rusty of Electric Mary.
Musical tastes all over the world were changing and a fresh approach was what Rusty needed, so along with guitarist Irwin Thomas he headed to New York.
The tourist thing lasted two days - the Dakota building, Central Park and everywhere in between. While sitting on a bench at the John Lennon memorial listening to really bad buskers singing the songs of the Beatles, Rusty realized he was chasing a sound with no heart and no soul.
It was time to revisit where his musical life began.
The next few days were spent walking the streets of New York, feeling, and tasting another way of life.
A chance meeting at a gig led to Rusty and Irwin hooking up with Mary Campbell, the legendary studio manager of Electric Lady Studio. An invitation was extended to visit the world famous studio, once owned by Jimi Hendrix.
He rang the doorbell to a building that had witnessed some of the greatest music and musicians of the last 20 years. The history lesson was loud and clear and down the steps and through a hallway he walked right into the middle of rock and roll’s very lifeblood.
Mary told many stories of artists & bands such as AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Guns'n'Roses, the Kinks, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and Bad Company. Rusty was in awe and he felt humbled to be hanging out with such illustrious company.
Standing in the live room of studio A and feeling a great sense of joy, Mary handed Rusty a business card, “that's me at the bottom of the card”, electric mary@.................." "
Right there and then Electric Mary was born.
On the flight home Rusty decided to go back to what made him want to play music in the first place. The kind of music he grew up listening to and that had shaped his life.
He knew the lineup he wanted with Venom on drums, Irwin, & Pete on guitars and Neilo on bass.
He knew the sound he was after and he knew these guys could deliver.

Although they already have 3 European tours and a coast to coast US tour under the belt, LA quartet Elegantly Wasted were until recently a noble unknown to yours truly. I came across the band on one of my frequent visits to the My Space pages in search of hot new talent.
The first track to caress my hearing during that initial visit was "Burn Right Through'", lifted from their current and second platter "Desolation Row", which mixes '70's inspired riffing with an '80's feel and plenty of modern day influences. Sounds confusing? Well, believe me when the album had finished its first spin I had a hard time putting my finger on what I had just heard. So all I could do was listen to it over and over again and the more I did, the more I discovered. Cause the strength of Elegantly Wasted's music lies within the fact that their songs are full of tempo changes, different guitar melodies and drum beats. There's so much going on that with each listen you come across something new.
Lyrically the band walks a darker route then most of their colleagues finding inspiration in topics such as alcoholism ("Too Much Too Soon"), not being able to speak one's mind ("So Wrong") and hurt feelings ("Burn Right Through" & "When The Time Is Right").
Pin pointing the quartet's exact influences is, as said before, not exactly an easy task but while listening I heard traces of Temple Of The Dog, present day Tesla, some Southern Rock, a bit of The Cult and to top things of a touch of sleaze.
The album offers plenty of rockin' moments albeit in a less straightforward way then what this here scribbler usually has on his menu cause each song has many unexpected twits and turns. Tracks that have stuck best with yours truly are the stomping opener "Sickhead", the highly melodic "Let It Rain" and "When The Time Is Right".
All in all "Desolation Row" offers some very adventurous listening and I am anxious to find out how they recreate the songs included in a live situation. (PS)

While the name of the band itself conjures up dark imagery, musically, its a melodic prog with punch. Recorded in Madrid in Jan/Feb' 2002, the album was supported by a video clip filmed on the Caribbean Island of Aruba. "Principles of Pain" was technical in a Progressive Power metal style, containing 2 ballads, 2 Neo-Classical up-tempo double bass drum tracks, and many mid-tempo melodic metal tracks, with catchy chorus lines. Much to the fans' surprise "Missing Persons" features former vocalist Eduard Hovinga in duet with Parry. It's an action packed metal album bursting with musical craftsmanship and extraordinary songwriting, and perhaps one of metal's most underrated CD's of the last decade. When Kaleidoscopes Collide
Elevener came to life as childhood friends Johan Bergquist (vocals, keyboards, bass) and Andreas Brodén (guitar, drums) joined forces in 2005 to make new music sounding as if the 90’s never had existed. Johan & Andreas had played in numerous bands together during the mid- & late eighties and then moved on to pursue new musical adventures.
Throughout the nineties Johan developed his love for progressive rock and was the lead singer/keyboardist for Swedish progsters Scenario for five years. During those years Andreas went to the USA and came back to Sweden as a slick soul & funk guitarist and earned his stripes doing studio sessions and playing clubs in Stockholm. As a keyboard player, Johan appeared on the Hammerfall album “Crimson Thunder” as well as on Stefan Elmgren’s Full Strike (both released in 2002). In 2002 Johan became the keyboard player for Swedish metal/hardrock band M.ill.ion who released the critically acclaimed “Kingsize” in 2004 and among the gigs that followed was a well received performance at the very first Firefest in 2005 and also a UK tour with MSG. In May 2008 M.ill.ion will release “Thrill of the Chase” (on AOR/Metal Heaven), an album that was recorded by Johan who also was very much involved in the song-writing (as on Kingsize previously).
At the dawn of the new millenium Johan & Andreas got together and soon realised that they both had gone full circle and returned to the music the grew up with; melodic rock/AOR. New songs were written and in 2005 the project known as “Elevener” was born. As the project rolled on it became a more & more serious matter and finally the album “When Kaleidoscopes Collide” was recorded and soon after that a deal was signed with AOR Heaven who will release the album on July 26th, 2008. The Elevener debut-album “When Kaleidoscopes Collide” was mixed by Tobias Lindell at Studio Bohus and mastered by Dragan Tanaskovic, also at Studio Bohus. The album contains 11 tracks of pure AOR, with the unique blend that is the sound of Elevener.

In 2008 the band separated their paths with Maxi Nil under good faith and Christianna was the next frontwoman. The Long Road Home
EMPYRIA's new release “The Long Road Home” is a return to their earlier progressive hard rock/metal roots. A very diverse release produced, engineered and mixed by guitarist Mike Kischnick. From more straight ahead power metal tracks like “The Endless Circle” & “Last Rites” to more melodic rock oriented tracks like “No Other Way” and “Walk Away” EMPYRIA remains true to their progressive leanings without being cliché and jumping on the progressive metal formats bandwagon. Well crafted songs and lyrics create a thematic landscape with an epic closing track “Returning Home” allowing new drummer Scott Gamble a place to shine. “The Long Road Home” is a musical journey through EMPYRIA's past, present and future which will expand the listening audience beyond just the progressive rock/metal world.
In the 18 years of the bands existence, the Canadian band EMPYRIA released in 1993 it's independent demo release “Ornamental Ironworks” cassette in a time when Progressive/Power Metal was being cast aside by the industries onslaught of Grunge and Mainstream Pop music. But EMPYRIA held their ground musically and in 1996 saw the release of their debut album “Behind Closed Doors” (produced by: Dale Penner (Nickleback)) on NOISE/T&T Records (Germany). Although a lineup change came in 1997 from Paul Falcon (Vocals/Bass) leaving the band and making the band a 4-piece with Phil Leite (vocals) and Ken Firomski (Bass), EMPYRIA realized there was a viable musical outlet for Progressive Metal worldwide and in 1998 released their follow -up album “Changing Currents” gaining an even stronger fan base and disribution through Nightmare Records (U.S.). Also appearing on Thomas Youngblood's (Kamelot) compilation release “Powerquest” in 1998. Staying true to their progressive roots EMPYRIA released “The Legacy” on Nightmare Records in 2000, in essence an EP that contained all four parts of their “Lighter Side of Darkness” in a continuous 25 minute epic. Well received by critics and prog. metal fans alike. In 2002 the full length “Sense of Mind” was released on Scrape Records (Canada) and hailed by critics as EMPYRIA's best release to date, with all releases appearing in “The A-Z of Power Metal”book. The band went on a slight hiatus for a few years due to Mike Kischnick's involvement as guitarist/producer/songwriter for Canadian metal icon “THOR” ( 5 albums/ 2 tours) as well as various side projects (Ten2Nine/ Severed Serenity/New Horizon/Life). While on a U.S. tour with THOR, Mike and Paul Falcon had met and discussed the possibilities of recording a new EMPYRIA album together. Well it's been 7 years but “The Long Road Home” is finally here with the help of new drummer Scott Gamble and longtime EMPYRIA singer Phil Leite. Believing that progressive music should never be a format, EMPYRIA remains distinct to their sound and style. Returning to their progressive rock/metal roots reflecting early influences of the band (revisiting early material never commercially released, as well as new material). It's been a long road but EMPYRIA has come back home, with their most accessible material so far, opening the door to a whole new world of listeners and fans.

Road To Paradiso
The Road to Paradiso is the name of a book about the Dutch symphonic metal-band Epica (written in both Dutch and English) which was accompanied by compilation album of the same band. It was released on May 4, 2006, on the very same night they performed at Paradiso in Amsterdam. The title The Road to Paradiso was given to the project because the book contained the story of how Epica developed from their beginning days in 2002, until what they had become in 2006. The album also includes demo versions of three of their previous released songs, effectively giving insight into how their songs developed.
The release of the album and book was announced on January 16th, 2006 on the official website of Epica.[1] The band stated that they wanted this album and book "to be made for the fans, but also by the fans".

Remember The Daze
EPITAPH are German hard rock dinos, which are in business since more than three decades. They were the first German band which toured in the States (long before Lake and the Scorps took over) and still have a loyal fan base over the world. “Remember The Daze” is their first new studio recording since nearly twenty years and the first thing which impressed me, is the fantastic production from singer Cliff Jackson, which blows every production from the current melodic rock scene away. Music wise EPITAPH plays a mic of clasic rock / hard rock, pretty much in the same vein as LAKE with their latest release “Blast Of Silence” meets LUCIFER’S FRIEND. A great comeback, let’s hope there is more to follow.

In 2001, a band was formed in Bavaria, Germany. First, only for one gig, but after the audience was left stunned and begging, the band decided to continue. They chose the name EQUILIBRIUM and released a Demo in 2003. This Demo not only sold like hell but also brought the band a deal with Black Attack.
The collabaration resulted in the amazing debut album "Turis Fratyr", combining Folk Metal with a blend of Pagan and Black Metal. After the release of the album and the good response of fans and the media likewise, the band played several tours and festival gigs (Summer Breeze, Wacken), establishing a huge fanbase all around europe – even though some of the lyrics were in German!
Not satisfied with the work of its old record company, the band signed a contract with Nuclear Blast Records in order to reach the next level.
With their newest effort "Sagas" this shouldn`t be an unreachable aim. The music and production has evolved – only hits, no fillers at all. The style still varies between happiness and sorrow, heavy and soft, melodic and grim. For this record, the band decided to only use German lyrics on the new Album, which gives EQUILIBRIUM uniqueness in the Folk/Pagan Metal scene!
"Sagas" will be released with a superb Bonus DVD with approx. 70 minutes of running time, featuring EQUILIBRIUM on and off stage. A worthy package for every fan!

The Eruption story began in 2003 when a young Italian guitarist, Santi, moved to Brisbane (Australia) to learn English and to try to break in the rock scene over there.
After several line-up changes the band Mobstar was born, which also played mainly cover versions from AC/DC, Guns N’Roses and Van Halen.
This three bands are also the main influences for their own material, but it’s still a long way to go to reach this level if ever!), cause even if the songs on “All Screwed Up” are overall solid as a hard rock, there is still something missing to compete with such great new acts like Airbourne or Heaven’s Basement, which are both fishing style wise at the same waters.
Not a bad start for a promising new act.

Torn
Evergrey's new studio album, Torn, wil be released at thebeginning of September, featuring eleven compositions, described by Englund as a "modern mix of In Search Of Truth and Recreation Day". "The tracks are all guitar-oriented and very atmospheric. They have exactly the sound that our fans expect from us." According to Englund, the slightly more experimental direction of Evergrey's previous release, Monday Morning Apocalypse, has given way again to old strengths and virtues. "Two years ago we needed an album with a slightly different approach and an expensive producer, just to find out how that sort of thing works. It was the right album at the time, but now we have returned to our typical trademarks." This is one of the reasons why the tracks on Torn were self-produced by Englund together with drummer Jonas Ekdahl. In addition, the band has a new bassist, Fredrik Larsson having been replaced by former Stratovarius musician Jari Kainulainen.
The first 6000 copies of “Torn” come packaged in digipak format and contain 1 bonus track.

Evil Masquerade is back with their Fourth album “Fade to Black” and the band has never sounded better. This fourth outing is a fantastic release of creative song writing and musicianship, all wrapped up with a faultless production. Bandleader and guitarist Henrik Flyman has outshined himself once again and made this album a force to be reckoned with.
Some line-up changes have taken place since their previous album “Third Act”. The bass player is now Johan Niemann. In addition Drums are now handled by the very competent Daniel Flores (Mind’s Eye). Apollo Papathanasio (ex Time Requiem) is retained as vocalist, a very wise move as he has such a great presence and is perfect for the job.
Keyboards are supplied by very special guest Tony Carey of Rainbow fame and this extra touch polishes the already finely tuned sound.
Henrik Flyman who plays the guitars has also, once again, produced the album. The resulting finished product has given the band a heavier approach and the band is up there with the big players. What you have here is huge crunching melodies, lush keyboards and a solid rhythm section, the experience of Daniel Flores shines through at an early stage. The production is heavy and supports the music just right. Mixing and mastering credits goes to well-reputed Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Jorn, TNT) and you can easily hear why he is in such high demand.
With “Fade to Black” we get to see Evil Masquerade flourish and raise their profile once more to a level that should rocket them to higher places.

Thrash Speed Burn
Metallica are not the inventors of Speed Metal. Slayer aren't either. This honour is due to Anvil and Exciter, both had been around before (and both are from Canada; pure chance?). Unfortunately, Exciter's career went its own way – and not the way of the above mentioned. What went wrong? Well, at least this was not due to the quality of the album. The new album, "Thrash speed burn" easily keeps up the high level of the predecessors, "The dark command" and "Blood of tyrants" (which have been released as much as eight years ago!). The big question for all Exciter-fans is, of course: will the new singer come close to Jaques Bélanger? And to end all worries: yes, Kenny Winter stands the test displayed with colours and, in fact, I like him even better than the old singer because he not only reaches the highest heights but also reveals an immense power in the middle and low sections - which further increases the power of such immortal Thrash bombs, like "Massacre mountain", "Evil omen" and "Thrash speed burn". The iconic rock foursome - vocalist Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and new drummer Kevin Figueiredo – recorded their fifth studio offering at NRG Studios in Los Angeles with Bettencourt at the helm as producer and mixer. “Saudades de Rock” boasts 13 tracks (plus one exclusive bonus track for the European edition, Americocaine demo 1985, the very first studio demo recording of Extreme) including the infectious roar of "Star," the groove-laden, swagger of "King", a raw funk rock anthem called "Learn To Love" and the expressive ballad "Ghost."
