The Reckoning
F5, if you haven’t heard yet, is the Phoenix-based band featuring former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, ex-Sick Speed vocalist Dale Steele, guitarists Steve Conley and John Davis, and ex-Megadeth drummer Jimmy DeGrasso. The group's forthcoming sophomore album, The Reckoning, is due on August 19 through OarFin Distribution and let me tell you first hand, it’s a metal record. The album is the follow-up to 2005's A Drug for All Seasons and was produced by Ryan Greene at his Crush Recording facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. Speaking of the production, the drums on this record pound you in the face and blasts with perfect quality. F5 called in Ellefson's longtime rhythm section cohort Jimmy DeGrasso to play drums on the new album following the recent departure of original F5 drummer Dave Small.
The album is pure out metal mania with nasty chugging guitars and brutal sounding drums. This is a band for any fan of Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth or Eighteen Visions. The vocals are the most like Avenged as they are raspy in front of the onslaught of rock. I really didn’t think much of the band until I heard this record and as I’m not the biggest fan of metal this was an eye opener for me. I knew the sound from Megadeth and things, as I am not the biggest fan of the vocals. This band will make it with the popularity of Avenged Sevenfold. As soon as people catch on to the music I can see this band being one of the top contenders in this genre. You will get double-bass rocking your ear drums, guitars blazing and powerful vocals. If you are a fan of any of the aforementioned artists I highly recommend this artist for your listening pleasure. Great work, go check it out in august or catch a song on their myspace.

Talking Bout Love
A real obscurity and also one of the most sought after European AOR CDs from the little known Austrian outfit FAHRENHEIT, which released this damn fine album on a small independent label way back in 1989. They scored a minor rock disco hit with the cover version of the LOVERBOY classic “Turn Me Loose” over here, but this was just a very local thing. This was a real pity, cause their poppy AOR style somewhere between DOMINOE, BOULEVARD and TOYS OF JOY should have attract much more AOR fans, cause AOR gems such as “Talking Bout Love”, “You And I”, “Suzanna” or “Danger” are simply top notch AOR tunes. Limited edition re-issue of 1000 copies only, so you better hurry up!

When it comes to Melodic Rock from Germany, then FAIR WARNING is definitely one of the top 5 bands to name. The band around singer Tommy Heart (SOUL DOCTOR) didn't ever deliver a weak or disappointing album in their almost 20 years lasting career. And the band's latest effort, „Aura“, marks no exception. Compared with previous albums, like „Rainmaker“ or „4“, the song material hasn't turned out that pompous. Even Helge Engelke's (DREAMTIDE) Sky Guitar playing sounds reduced to its bare essentials. Due to these little adjustments in their style the straight and powerful rockers like „Fighting For Your Love“, „As Snow White Found Out“ and the outstanding „Here Comes The Heartache“ bring back memories of the band's self-titled debut album. Another highlight is „Hey Girl“. In the opening the song gets carried by some acoustic guitars and Tommy Heart's emotional vocals, but then turns slowly into a bombastic power ballad. This is definitely one of the best songs FAIR WARNING have ever recorded! A special mention must also be given to the ballad „Falling“ of which vocal melody and melancholy remind me a bit of DURAN DURAN's „Ordinary World“, as well as the mid-tempo rocker „Station To Station“ that plays with some unobtrusive Funk elements. The album's most pompous song is the slow paced rocker „Someday“ which features some classic background arrangements and a very Brian May-ish guitar solo. Since „Aura“ is a FAIR WARNING album it goes without saying that the playing, singing and production are beyond any reproach. In my opinion this is one band's best and most consitent works to date. A must-buy for all Melodic Rock lovers!

Down In It
Fair Ground is the band feat. Harem Scarem guitarist Pete Lesperance and ex-Our Lady Peace guitarist Mike Turner, helping out on drums is Creighton Doane (Harem Scarem) and Pete has taken care of the lead vocal duties. This is pretty much the same album as Pete's solo album "Down In It" from 2004, they have a rougher sound on the Fair Ground album compared to the lighter powerpop sound of the 2004 version. You could say it's one step closer to the Harem Scarem rock but not that hard, I'm glad Pete and Mike added more guitars and turned it up in the mix because this album sounds better than Pete's solo effort that also was a solid piece of work in my opinion. "What are you waiting for?" is the only new track on the album and it's a catchy midtempo tune that works real. Highly recommended for Harem Scarem fans!

FAIRYLAND keyboardist/backing vocalist Philippe Giordana previously stated about the new album, "The main vocal character on the disc is the Italian singer Marco Sandron from the progressive metal band PATHOSRAY. There's also a full-length concert of 12 songs that were shot in various cities throughout Fight's 1993-1994 tour. There were songs filmed in Portland, Paris, Denver, Munich and more. Because of that, each song has a little different feel and there's a different look and vibe. Still, it flows together well and the audio and video quality are good.

Well, first of all it is classic Hard Rock in the tradition of RAINBOW or DEMON. Talking about the latter, the vocals by Pino Scotto are not dissimilar to those of one Dave Hill of DEMON. The raw touch is especially appealing to me, as I really worship Hill…There are various influences from Neo Hard Rock and Melodic Metal, which causes a partial flooring of the throttle. Yet they are far away from the Italo speed tootling of their competitors. It has become a coherent, good album, with the strength being epic mid-tempo. Quality-wise, everything is on a quite sophisticated level.

Born Of Fire
The band Firecracker started some years ago and is the brainchild of Stefan Lindholm (Vindictiv). Before Vindictiv was formed Stefan contacted keyboard maestro Pontus Larsson and they started to work on some of the songs he had laid down. With bass player Fredrik Folkare (Unleached) and Hasse Worzel on drums the band took shape. Vocalist Tommy Karevik from "Seventh Wonder" took care of the vocal duties and the basis of Firecracker came to a reality.
Musically the band is everything you would expect and more from Sweden. For all of you out there that have heard and fallen in love with Vindictiv (“Vindictiv” ESM164 and “Ground Zero” ESM190) then this predecessor is essential listening. The guitar technique of Stefan Lindholm is as crisp and neat as ever, and he seems to effortlessly produce exciting riffs and melodies with nonchalance. His early years admiring and emulating the works of Malmsteen and Vai shine through but he does have a technique of his own that finds its way through. Keyboards play a vital role in the overall sound and there are plenty of these throughout, and when in harmony, form passages of pleasurable rock music. In addition to Pontus Larsson, keyboards are also supplied by classical player Henrik Mawe and his input of elongated keyboards makes this a stunning release and shows a difference to Vindictiv, a band who Stefan naturally progressed from Firecracker.
The CD “Born of Fire” is an exciting look back to the earlier days of Stefan’s career, which is now developing into legendary status. It is a release that has an appealing raw edge to it, and it would have been a sin to pass by this fantastic recording. Firecracker is a great name for a band, certainly this one as they fit their moniker exactly.

Flash Addict's popularity peaked in 1992-93, when the band took top honors both years at the Big Gig, which was New England's largest music festival of unsigned artists. The Big Gig was held at Great Woods (now known as The Tweeter Center). The band were also able to attract representation with promising prospects, but hopes of a record deal began to fade with changing musical times.
As the group's established sleaze-rock sound and image fell out of favor with both labels and the listening public, Flash Addict broke up in 1995. There were FM on his first three albums already showcased the obvious talents of the band, that was intensified and extended to a large degree on the fourth record ‘Aphrodisiac’ (1992). The songs are well balanced, the musicianship is great, the production (by FM in cooperation with Andy Reilly) is crystal clear and the lead vocals of Steve Overland are truly outstanding. Therefore I absolutely can not understand that this album did sell better, but the year of release (1992) and the upcoming “grunge” phenomenon will have something to do with this. If you want to catch FM at its very best, I for one should go for this ‘Aphrodisiac’ record, because on this album a large number of great songs like “Breathe Fire”, “Blood & Gasoline”, “Closer To Heaven” or “All Or Nothing”.

After the ‘Tough It Out’ tour lead guitar player Chris Overland decided to call it a day and he got replaced by Andy Barnett, who had already contributed to the writing of the song ‘That Girl’ from the debut album. With Andy in the line-up the sound became a little bit heavier and also some more blues influences became apparent and the first signs of that evolution became obvious on this ‘Takin’ It To The Streets’ album. The A.O.R. influences have decreased a little bit and the rock influences have increased somewhat. Despite of this shift also the third FM album is a very good one, not in the least by the absolute magnificent vocal contribution of Steve Overland, The band had a few small hits with the nice performance of the Marvin Gaye song ‘I Heard It Through The Gravevine’ and the fine ballad ‘Only The Strong Survive’.

"Reality Divine" features nine tracks of progressive tinged power metal that is sure to please fans of both genres. With tracks ranging from the epic "The Conqueror Worm", featuring vocalist Tim Aymar (CONTROL DENIED/PHARAOH) to the emotive "Sowing Dead Seeds", the debut from FOOL'S GAME is one not to be missed. FOOL'S GAME is the brain-child of guitarist/song-writer Matt Crooks (ex-DIVISION). Shortly after a few songs had been written, Crooks recruited guitarist Matt Johnsen (PHARAOH) and John Macaluso (ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN,ex-TNT,ex-ARK) to fill the drum spot. The next step was to find a singer for the project. Danish vocalist Lars F. Larsen (MANTICORA) signed up. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place when Crooks called Nick van Dyk (REDEMPTION) to play keyboards for the project. Once the recording sessions began it was clear that this was no longer a one man project. Each member was given free reign to expand on the songs, and each contributed their own touch to the songs.

Visions
FROM THE INSIDE is the project that marked the start of the cooperation between legendary Melodic Rock singer Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) and Frontiers Records. Released in September 2004, the first album was welcomed with great acclaim from both fans and press and it finally brought Danny back to the classic Melodic Rock sounds. Together with producer Fabrizio Grossi ( Glenn Hughes, Starbreaker) he was able to put together a finely crafted and top quality contemporary Melodic Rock release.
In the winter of 2007, Danny and Frontiers Records President Serafino Perugino once again discussed the production of a true Melodic Rock record in the vein of classic Journey and Tyketto that could follow in the footsteps of the successful debut - From The Inside. Fab Grossi was again recruited and the two of them worked on the songwriting, along with keyboardist Eric Ragno.
The songs were later complemented by additional killer tracks penned especially for the album by Tom and James Martin (of Khymera, Ted Poley and House of Lords fame), with “Love Is No Stranger” by Joey Carbone ( Joseph Williams ) later added to the album, thus completing the tracklisting.
Recording sessions finished in early 2008 with Jimi Bell (House of Lords), handling guitar duties and Peter Lobo on drums. Tommy Hansen (TNT, Jorn, Pretty Maids, Helloween etc) took care of the mix in April.
The result is a truly amazing Melodic Rock album with a harder edge: a flawless collection of extremely well-written songs, with tight musicianship and the vocals... well, this just may be Danny Vaughn's greatest vocal performance to date. “Visions” will absolutely take your breath away. A must have release for 2008!
