“At The Gates Of Dawn” is the second full release from German Power Metallers Ra's Dawn.
There is a heavier, darker pull to Ra's Dawn and their Egyptian-flavoured musical snake charming than others, and their ability to shift between genres almost effortless gives “At The Gates Of Dawn” a healthy sheen, and intriguing caprice.
The typical Euro Metal sensibilities are all there: duelling guitar harmonies, pliant drum work, triumphant keyboards; but the band show no mercy when it comes to unleashing a rabid thrash monster. In general “ATGOD” is slightly reminiscent of “Powerslave”-era Iron Maiden — due mostly to the band's fearless time changes and epic escapism.

Lead singer and guitarist Peavy Wagner formed the band Rage in the early ‘80s under the name Avenger. The name Rage was adopted in 1985 due to a British band already having the name Avenger, funnily enough there was also a band called Rage in Britain. They released their debut album Reign of Fear in 1986 and followed this with the album Extinction Guaranteed the following year. The band soon fell apart and Wagner was left to pick up the pieces, recruiting drummer Chris Efthimiadis and guitarist Manni Schmidt. Between 1988 and 1993 this line up recorded five albums from Perfect Man to The Missing Link.
Joining a collection of German heavy metal bands in 1993 on the Melodic Metal Tour, they set out to prove that metal was not dead, but unfortunately they themselves would not be far from extinction, breaking up shortly after this performance. The headline band for this tour was Gamma Ray and they have also released their performance from this show at Hamburg’s Dock’s venue, the title of their release is Gamma Ray – Lust For Live.
The band is referred to as thrash metal with maturity and they certainly live up to that title with this performance. They pump out a great sound and the audience seem to enjoy every minute.

RAIN was founded in 1997 as a result of a project started by Lars Forseth and Sonny Crow from the band Bankok Babes. They were soon joined by the Bangkok Babes drummer Per-Helge “Peppa” Bruvoll, guitarist Tore Moren from Jorn and Michael Bormann (Jaded Heart, Bonfire, J.R. Blackmore, Zeno, etc.) The recordings for their second album took place in Michael Bormann’s studio in Duisburg, Germany in 2005. The album is now being released by MTM MUSIC for the territory of Europe and in Japan by JVC/Victor. “Stronger” is a pure AOR Hardrock album and Michael Bormann continues with this great band where he stopped after the JADED HEART “IV” album.

Ratt helped pioneer Hollywood's legendary Sunset Strip sound and scene. The band has returned sounding fired up and better than ever. [1984's] 'Out of the Cellar,' says vocalist Stephen Pearcy. 'We definitely went back to basics with the mindset of a band with a lot of excitement and some great songs to get out.'
Ratt flew to a remote area of Virginia Beach in spring 2009 to work on new songs. They stayed in a four bedroom house there and wrote on their own schedule, banging out riff after riff and molding them into tunes quickly and with great enthusiasm. 'We literally ate, slept and did everything right there, and it was great fun,' DeMartini says. 'We would stay up as late as we wanted and work as late as we wanted and wake up when you want and eat something and get right back to it. It was really cool; there were even a couple of engineers that lived close by. It felt like going to an oasis to be creative.'

THERE MUST be something in the Canadian water that makes virtually every act from those parts sound special; and Toronto-based four-piece Reckless were no exception to that rule, brandishing a righteous and downright lethal brand of melodic hard rock that was both ready with the riffs and handy with the hooks.
Led by guitarist/composer Steve Madden and vocalist Jan Melanson (an item while this record was being recorded), the band’s roots lay in the sophisticated yet raw pop rock of ’70s outfits such as the Sweet, Cheap Trick and Blondie, but with an altogether heavier edge, reflecting a scene shift in metal dynamics that was beginning to take place the world over. For Reckless, the focus was always on thrusting razor-sharp guitar riffs shadowed by some decidedly un-ladylike female vocals.
Ignored by record labels in their native Canada, the group was eventually signed by EMI in Europe, who issued this ’79 debut – produced by Paul Gross (Saga) at Phase One Studios in Toronto – to great critical acclaim, especially in the UK, where magazines such as Sounds and later Kerrang! were quick to fly the flag.
Sadly, however, the long distance relationship with their label meant that progress was slow, and despite the help and support of some high-profile peers, plus a few influential rock scribes (take a bow Paul Suter!), the band’s tenure was short-lived.
Happily, Madden and Reckless would live to fight another day, but it is for this album that the group will forever be remembered – perhaps one of the greatest (unheralded) melodic hard rock releases of the late-’70s. A record with ferocious intent and silky precision. They definitely don’t make them like this any more…

The wave of new Hard Rock bands from Scandinavia doesn’t end. The latest discovery are RECKLESS LOVE from Finland. In comparison with bands like H.E.A.T. or TITAN their sound shows a bigger poser attitude, so they remind you a little bit of acts like MÖTLEY CRÜE and HANOI ROCKS. On a couple of songs you can also hear some influences ranging from Alice Cooper to Billy Idol. The guys are definitely on a good way, but the vocals by Oli Herman sound a bit flat and some songs have turned out way to polished. A few more rough edges would have been welcomed. However, the positive aspects about RECKLESS LOVE’s debut record clearly prevail, so checking it out is still recommended. M. SPÄTH

Progressive Metal from Germany almost always leaves a negative feeling in the mouth. And that is something which neither the bands nor the musicians deserve. RED CIRCUIT from the Mainz/Wiesbaden area are anything but copycats sailing in the airstream of the likes of DREAM THEATER and Co. hoping to take advantage of their fame. Behind the name RED CIRCUIT there are musicians with many years of experience, putting their own musical visions into practise. Their second album, "Homeland" shows the quintett earthier, more explosive and more riff-oriented than on its predecessor which was more a mixture of multi-layered rhythms, deeply melodic vocals, atmospheric surroundings and clearly more electronic frivolity. The band, formed in 2006 is led by Markus Teske (keyboards, ex-Sheela), who has won an excellent reputation as producer and sound engineer for Symphony X, Neal Morse, Ian Parry's Consortium Project, Saga and Vanden Plas. Together with the exceptional singer Chity Somapala (ex-Firewind, ex-Avalon, Faro, Civilization One,....), Chris Moser (guitar), Thomas Schmitt (bass) and Andy Klein (drums), RED CIRCUIT re-formed their ranks in 2009 in order to give free rein to their urge for creativity. Markus Teske and his friend Andy Kuntz (Vanden Plas, Abydos) have composed, written and produced ten new songs in his own Bazement Studio in Hunstetten near Frankfurt. Andy Kuntz is an important factor in the musical cosmos of the RED CIRCUIT sound. His input on "Homeland" does not only include second vocals but also vocal effects and other performance additions which give the songs a final polish. The addition of drummer Andy Klein and guitarist Chris Moser (ex-Sheela) has shifted the musical focal point more towards riff-oriented song structures without fundamentally changing the symphonic-epic influences of the debut album.

Here’s a hot new british indie CD that will please fans of no frills hardrock along the lines of DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB or SAXON. The riff ladden opener “King Of The Mountain” (like a mix of WHITESNAKE and LYNCH MOB) sets the tone for the album which consists of 10 tracks of which there’s no filler to be found. On faster paced songs like “No Limits” or “High Price To Pay” bands like SAXON or even JUDAS PRIEST come to my mind while the more melodic stuff (“Twistin’ The Knife”, “Heaven’s Gate”) is at home in DOKKEN territory. “Coast To Coast” features a total DEF LEPPARD riff and “Cold Silence” is an ultra melodic semi ballad which could be another new DOKKEN tune. For an indie the production which includes many layered backing vocals is surprisingly good and with Liam Doherty REDLINE have the perfect hardrock vocalist. Highly recommended!

Reece - Universal Language - Released August 28 - David Reece, former vocalist of Accept, Bangalore Choir and current vocalist of Swedish rockers Gypsy Rose, has finished the recordings of his first solo record for Metal Heaven! To date he is fulfilling his dream, by being given the chance to release his first solo effort entitled Universal Language.
This record is truly an expression of his life's journey, a melodic hard rock album full of big choruses, strong grooves, showcasing past, present and future. Reece started writing and recording this record in late 2008 with Andy Susemihl (former guitarist of U.D.O.) and from the beginning he realized, that Andy understood his vision musically as well as lyrically. After writing such tracks as Before I Die, Fantasy Man and Flesh and Blood he knew, he was on the right track. Andy is also a world class Producer, who will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with. While writing this record, Andy introduced David to Jochen F�nders (former bassist of Holy Moses) and after hearing his melodic style, David knew he was a perfect fit. When searching for a drummer, the obvious choice for David was Stefan Schwarzmann! He has known this super talent for a long time and when David asked him to do his record, Stefan hungrily agreed!

We are happy to reveal the cover and tracklist of the new and comeback album by RELAPSED. RELAPSED is known under the name CITA and GUILD OF AGES and original band members Danny Martinez, Joe Marone and Rob Marone are finally back in business!
Back in 1988, Danny Martinez and the brothers Joe and Rob Marone came together to found the rock band CAUGHT IN THE ACT and due to legal reasons the band had to change their name to GUILD OF AGES. After releasing "Relapse Of Reason", "Heat of Emotion" and “One”, "Vox Dominatas" and numerous line-up changes the three original and founding members, Danny, Joe and Rob came together again to relive old memories and have a good time. They immediately felt the special magic again, which created CAUGHT IN THE ACT some 15 years ago. Realizing, they need a fourth member to complete the band, Brian Mesa joined in early 2004.
This is how RELAPSED came to live and now Danny, Joe, Rob and Brian are recapturing the magic of the past while creating a new sound and vibe.

Unleash Your Demon
Founded in 1984 The Roxx is one of the most magnificant bands in Germany`s heavyrock scene. There was always something mysterious surrounding the band and lead singer Billy Itch, who covers the unbelievable range of 4 octaves. The Roxx concerts are a demonstration of first class handmade music, as well as shows worth to watch.
The first period of The Roxx started in 1984 with legendary show concerts. Today the first edition (1000 copies) of The Roxx 1st album Suger and Spice from 1986 with its remarkable plastic-bubble cover is a high priced collectors item. Songs like ON The Roxx, Boybitch and VR Alien 2U were standard reportoire of the Djs and can be heared on the collection Munich City Nights as well. Suger and Spice was followed by Watch us Cum (been badly modified and bootlegged as Get it Hot all over Europe and Russia as well; in Russia rumours were spread that Get it Hot is a project of Rob Halford and Metallica`s bass player Jason Newstead; many people there still don`t know that The Roxx is The Roxx). The following album Chills Down Your Spine (1990) was never released, as Animale, the the guitar player, died. This marked the end of The Roxx first period. Animale was followed by L.X. Gaitanides, who is is in the band since then.
In the second period The Roxx became more of a heavy metal band. Billy Itchs creativity in songwrighting, the enourmous technical variability of the new guitar hero, combined with the straight power of F. Sudden on the drums made the new style of The Roxx. Sex & Roxx & Rock 'n' Roll Part I and Sex & Roxx & Rock 'n' Roll Part II were the next albums to be released (1990). The wonderful ballade Maybe made it into the charts and can be heard on Part II. The limited vinyl EP Wild Thing (960 copies) hat an empty b-side and was packed in a pizza cardboard! The 1992 album No Soul Messiah! showed the peak of The Roxx stylistic variability. Indian sitars, dixieland banjo, gothic elements combined with heavyrock classics left the listener impressed and surprised.
The 1994 live album Wild Things Live marks the begin of a break. Everyone who saw The Roxx real live can`t help one eye from laughing and the other from crying when listening to Wild Things Live. The 1995 album Dominator was never finished. Only a few bootlegged rough mixes found their way to the fans. The musicians went their own ways in several bands and music projects for the next decade.
The 20th anniversary of Suger and Spice remarks the beginning of the third band period. The anniversary was reason enough to reunion the band with B.Itch, L.X. Gaitanides, F. Sudden and the new face on the bass Mr. Martin Motnik (member of german band EISBRECHER). Billy: »We performed some songs and nothing was missing. The magic, the creativity, the power.«. After the first rehearsal two new songs were finished. The songs can be heard on the EP CD Trigger/RIP and keeps the fans houngry for the new album UNLEASH YOUR DEMON to be released on october 19th 2007 by Rockville Music (www.rockville-music.com). The phantastic reunion show at Munich Metropolis Music Hall on December 15th 2006 was recorded live. The reunion DVD will be released soon, as well as a best of compilation of the first 20 years containing rare and unreleased songs. The B.ITCH is back!

from Memphis, TN. Produced by Mike Clink,
ROXY BLUE was reportedly discovered by
WARRANT singer Jani Lane in a Memphis
club. MOTLEY CRUE manager Doug Thaler
then became interested and helped the group
land a deal with Geffen. The album featured
backing vocals by Jimi Jamison (SURVIVOR),
Tommy Funderburk (KING OF HEARTS) and
the aforementioned Jani Lane. The band also
contributed a cover of THE WHO's 'Squeeze
Box'. ROXY BLUE toured in America during
1992 with BABYLON A.D. and WILDSIDE.

a founder member of SALIVA before founding
RAIL. Bassist Josh Weil was later spotted as

Desert Of Tears
US heavy metallers Ruffians formed in the early 80's and released an EP and some demos before their break-up in 1989. They had a good run, and made a name for themselves, especially as their first vocalist Carl Albert and current bassist Tommy Sisco also played in Vicious Rumors at one point. It's a shame that both Albert and their former bassist Dan Houra passed away. Albert was replaced by Rich Wilde in 1986, who, along with the other members, is still doing the reunion album. Actually, drummer Luke Bowman is also an interesting member, since he was the original drummer of Laaz Rockit, even for a very short time. Just a little history background reveals the potential of these guys, who decided to regroup and release a brand new album, following their well-received There & Back compilation in 2004. Desert of Tears is the band's first full album in over twenty years. They did, however, do some of these songs on their 2004 live album when they also played several important festivals in Europe, notably Bang Your Head. Their music is still firmly rooted in the 80's, bordering on what most listeners like to call US power metal a la Iced Earth. Lots of heavy riffs and soaring vocals, big rhythms, and melodic guitar solos are what make the band. "Running Blind" is a song earlier Iced Earth fans may want to check out; full of melodic guitars and scorching screams. Although Rich Wilde's vocals may not be as powerful and vicious as they were two decades ago, he injects unquestionable energy into the platter. On the deeply growling "I Believe", with killer dual lead work; the darker "Day of the Champion" and "I Will Fly", two mid-tempo efforts, relying on thick rhythms and extended guitar work, Wilde lays down some phenomenal screams. The somewhat Priest-like "Live by the Sword" is a great work of speedy melodic metal, with an anthemic chorus, while "Soldiers Fate" recalls Vicious Rumors with its boomy riffs. Sisco defines "Chosen One" with unmistakable bass notes; while the largely acoustic ballad "It Ain't Over" and the final song "Freedom" provide extra diversity. The band is certainly capable of churning out high-speed, rocking metal songs alongside moving power ballads, never veering off the classic 80's path. There must be lots of Ruffians fans who have waited for this disc. They will not be disappointed.

FnA Records have taken both albums back into the studio and remastered them. They have been sonically enhanced and beefed up with a much fuller, broader, deeper sound. And for extra measure the overall volume levels have been cranked as well without losing the intensity of the original sound. But even better than that, the albums are now available at a decent price, with new artwork, and the fans can even buy a two-pack of both Rumbledog albums at an even further discounted price.

The first album, simply self-titled, came out in 1993 and saw many tunes of released material under Dirty Looks in original version or altered lyrics (and title track) and former members of Dirty Looks as well. The second and last album entitled "The Drowning Pool" came out in 1995 showed an evolution in the style and caught up to the sound of this era, surely influenced by the members recruited for the recording like Mike Smith on guitar (future-Limp Bizkit and Evolver), Jassen Wilber on bass and Ron Sutton on drums (both future-Burning Orange and Bernard Allison Band), and the contribution of Paul Lidel and Mike Ondrusek (ex-Dirty Looks).
