If you’re already a fan of the group, or you enjoy bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Dragonforce, then check out this release. $14.99 SACRED SEASON   NO MAN'S LAND VERY COOL MELODIC ROCK!! $16.99 SACRED STEEL Carnage Victory ( Cd / Dvd Combo ) Though they have ever brandished a competent blade of Germanic power/speed metal, Sacred Steel has always presented a huge barrier to entry in the form of vocalist Gerrit P. Mutz. Mutz is a frustrating frontman because he clearly is capable of doing some wicked sounding vocals, yet intentionally incorporates cheesy screaming that makes the band sound like a caricature. Simply listen to the opener "Charge Into Overkill", a bombardment of great, heavy power metal riffing. Now listen through the vocals... there are some fine gang shout moments, and some bridges where Mutz uses a very catchy snearing style, only to blow out of proportion into some god awful shrieks. Henning Basse or King Diamond this guy is not, and it saddens me that the band (or Mutz himself) never calls this out when mixing the record. If not for those terribad, high-pitched vox this could be one of the contenders for power metal record of the year...the riffing is intense, especially on "Don't Break the Oath", "Crosses Stained With Blood", and "The Skeleton Key". The production on Carnage Victory is quite good, it's dirty and spiteful power speed just like the great days of the 80s, when this style was actually considered heavy and not extensively overdubbed and saccharinated into irrelevance. The album is only a few cards short of a full deck, and the vocals are the sole culprit. It's not a matter of Mutz having a bad voice, but the bad choices he makes with that voice. Refuge Denied, a Thrash album with a different perspective, was produced by Dave Mustaine. The album contains a great version of Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit'. Into The Mirror Black was Sanctuary's second and final album and remains an overlooked masterpiece, blurring the lines between technical, Bay area-style Thrash, traditional Heavy Metal and European Power Metal. Every song hitting the sweet spot between hook and riff, it is a triumph and a shame that it was their final album. $22.99 SANDALINAS   Fly To The Sun SANDALINAS' debut, „Living On The Edge“, of the year 2005, was a very promising Hard Rock album. Now the band around guitarist Jordi Sandalinas finally delivers the follow-up. „Fly To The Sun“ is a concept album that was recorded under the guidance of producer Andy LaRocque (KING DIAMOND) and with the help of a backing band, consisting of singer Rick Altzi (AT VANCE) and the two Yngwie Malmsteen-members Mick Cervino (bass) and Patrick Johansson (drums). Compared with the pretty straight debut, „Fly To The Sun“ features a more complex songwriting and arrangements. So it takes a little longer till the new material displays all its strength and comes to full shine. Anyhow, Rick Altzi turns out to be a lucky choice for the band, because his powerful and charismatic voice in the vein of Jorn Lande and Zak Stevens leaves a strong mark on the new songs. The Swedish singer can be very proud of his performance that can definitely keep up with the very fine guitar-playing of bandleader Jordi Sandalinas. The musical direction of „Fly To The Sun“ can be described best as a mixture of AT VANCE, Axel Rudi Pell and Jorn Lande's solo releases. If you have a weakness for those acts, then you will definitely appreciate songs like the fast and powerful opener „Fly To The Sun“ that even reminds me of melodic RUNNING WILD, the slow paced and very intense „As The Rain Falls“, the dark and balladesque „Shadow In The Rain“ that would have fit perfectly on SAVATAGE's „Handful Of Rain“, the slightly bluesy „The Healer Talks“ and the closing and very melancholic „Seasons In The Sand“. A special mention must be given to the production by Andy La Rocque who gave the album a very clear and perfectly balanced sound. Originally as a studio project, the song "Friends" was birthed as a Demo and things would begin to take shape. Jeff and Ronnie carried on with the help of lifelong friend and studio drummer Mark Busto. The 3 went into the studio in 1984 and recorded "Stop Runnin" The song began to get air play on a local radio station and won a statewide songwriting contest. The Band won a thousand dollars and studio time which financed future recording sessions. "Stop Runnin" was submitted to "MTV's Basement Tapes" contest in 1983 and finished as a top 4 finalist. Acquiring Kip Thompson as a full time member, the group began play out and build their following. Returning to the studio in 1985, the band recorded anthem,"Were gonna Rock" and "The Armour" Local radio picked up and began playing "Were gonna Rock" The song began to win weekly listener voted contests as "King of the Mountain" for many weeks in a row. 1986 would soon bring change as the Band decided to go in a Heavier sounding direction and added drummer Jimmy Moore. "I Declare war" would birth from the next studio effort and begin the final chapter in the Band's saga. The final step of the Groups evolution was adding guitar phenom,"Michael E Flake" Michael's virtuoso sound was the perfect compliment to the groups direction. The Quartet would play many theaters and clubs through out central Florida. Scarlet would return to the studio one final time namely "Morrisound recording studio" to record 2 new songs. Eventually parting in 1988, Ronnie and Michael would move to LA to pursue other avenues while Jeff and Jimmy would join Brett and Brad Warren to form "St Warren". When Noon returned from a vacation in 2007, an excited Vanstone informed him of the availability of axe-slinger Gould. Noon recalls: "Gareth Vanstone and I had been writing rough material for a few years with no actual goals. That said, this isn’t ‘Camelot’ redux and the latter third seems like a different album, stylistically taking a step back from the speed and aggression inherent elsewhere. In something of a coup, Frost was able to retain a vocalist for two successive platters. Alan Tecchio (ex-Hades/Watchtower) is behind the mic, hitting those highs and keeping a gritty overview on the whole proceedings. His voice is better suited to these tracks. Joey Vera (Armored Saint/Fates Warning, etc.) returns on bass (as well as behind the mixing board), rounding out contributions by fellow four-stringers Kevin Bolembach (ex-Non Fiction) and Clint Arent (PainMuseum). I'm quite sure that not a lot of people here know Shadowkeep from UK but this is so unfair that I hope that my review will help them a bit to get more recognition. This band rocks and their new album "The Hourglass Effect" is a little jewel of aggressive Power Metal with strong Progressive elements. It's good to listen to such music and I hope that you'll agree with me when you'll put your hand on this CD (because of course, you'll follow my orders and buy it as soon as possible right?). If you like blasting rhythmic and thrashy riffs, I'm convinced that you'll like a lot "The Hourglass Effect". The album is full of great guitars riffs which cut like a razor but Shadowkeep is also a Progressive band and those songs are all really complex with a lot of different passages and breaks. This is something effective and not really "crazy" like some Prog combo can be but if you like bands like Nevermore I'm certain that "The Hourglass Effect" will have a really positive effect on your ears. I'm not going to say that Shadowkeep music is the most innovative and surprising one but really the guys have great ideas and I like their influences which come (I think so) from bands like Queenrsÿche or Helstar. This nice melting pot of aggressive US Power Metal with 90's Prog works perfectly and I recommend you to try first a real Prog track like "Shadow Keep" and then something a bit more violent like "Waiting For The Call" to understand the music of the band. If you like those songs then you'll like the whole album which doesn't have any letdown. The production is good and I'm impressed by the performance of the guys too. The singer has a really good voice and we're at the top of the top in term of compositions and musical skill. This is really good because "The Hourglass Effect" is a powerful album which doesn't lack of good melodies and tempo but which is also truly Prog. This release can be a perfect way for the Proghead to listen to something thrashy and for the other ones to discover what good Prog Metal is. "The Hourglass Effect" is an excellent discovery for me. Believe me this album deserves all your attention, this is intelligent, not redundant and full of great riffs. I hope that Shadowkeep will find a way to tour all around Europe now because I want to see that live and I hope that you'll have this feeling too. "The Hourglass Effect" is a classy release and I promise you that I will keep an eye on this band, Shadowkeep deserves it! If you don’t know SIDEBURN so far this is your chance to listen to a kick ass hard rock band ! $15.99   Cherry Red The Swiss hard rockers have released five full album and a couple of mini albums since they started their career in 1989, but they never got the same attention as their fellow countrymens SHAKRA, KROKUS or GOTTHARD just to mention the real big ones. This is indeed a pity, cause they can easily match with the latest releases from SHAKRA and KROKUS. “Cherry Red” offers the typically AC/DC flavoured mix of riff- and boogie rock (not a big surprise that one of the songtitles is called “Ghost Of 1980 To Bon Scott”) paired with great hooks and a crisp and powerful produc-tion. Fans of AC/DC, AIRBOURNE, early SHAKRA/ /KROKUS and ROSE TATTOO will get a run for their money – satisfaction guarnateed! $15.99   Crocodile The name SIDEBURN is definitely not a dead giveaway of what you can expect from these guys. Upon listening, the first thing that comes to mind is the bands Sideburn reminds me of. They seem to be a conglomeration of Rhino Bucket, AC/DC and maybe a bit of The Four Horsemen. The band definitely has their own identity though with only hints of those bands spattered here and there on the album. The music is definitely blues influenced with great attitude. I'm telling you to pay attention to these guys, especially if you dig it in the AC/DC/Rhino Bucket vein. It's no wonder why these guys are one of Switzerland's best exports. They get the job done in great Fashion $15.99   Gasoline Switzerland's Sideburn are without a doubt one of the most consistent acts I've heard in awhile. The band play in the same area as Rhino Bucket or AC/DC. Not too sophisticated by any means, but nonetheless enjoyable at the same time. How do bands such as these maintain their audiences? One word that was mentioned before, 'Consistency'. SIDEBURN embrace this once again with their latest rocker 'Gasoline'. The Swiss really embrace the riff rock sound and have for quite some time. These guys aren't afraid to use a tried and tested formula via AC/DC and just let it all hang out. The music is that kind of Riff Rock with vocals somewhere between Bon Scott and maybe Mark from Shakra. Highly recommended ! $15.99   GENOCIDE - Stranded The band's members first start jammin' together in the early eighties, but it's in 1989 that things seriously started rollin'. The five musicians from Genocide (former name of the band) got together in a studio in Hamburg to create their first mini LP "Roots In Rock" produced by Dierk Steffens (Accept)... A big hit! In 1992, after a long series of concerts, they called up Jurg Naegeli (Krokus) to immortalize their next eleven songs on "Showtime", their first full album. The group made a very strong name for itself in the world of Heavy Rock. In 1994, the BMG record company signed them to record their new disc "Stranded". Kick ass hard rockers like “Raise Your Hands”, “Knockin’ On The Wrong Door”, “Wanna Lie Between” or the power amped title track are high octane power house rockers, which gives fans of the above mentioned acts a run for their money. The idea to form this band came, when he realized that he is writing various kinds of songs, which often do not fit under the flag of his original heavy metal band called Vindex. Signum Regis focuses on melodic metal with neoclassical elements and shredding guitars. The sound is an interesting combination of Ronnie’s style of composing and his main influences for this kind of music: Yngwie Malmsteen, Rainbow, Impellitteri and Helloween. For the recording Ronnie invited guitarists Ado Kaláber and Filip Koluš, keyboard player Ján Tupý and drummer Ludìk Struhaø. The interesting think about Ludìk is that besides being a great drummer he also is a singer. The position of the main vocalist had still been open at this point. However, it didn’t take too long to come to the decision to invite Göran Edman, a well-known vocalist with a magical voice from Sweden. There is no need to introduce him to the metal fans, because his performance on Yngwie Malmsteen and John Norum albums already became legendary. The recording started with demos, which were later sent to Göran. Fortunately, he was impressed by the sound of the first three songs, which were deliverd to him (“Follow The Light”, “Neverland” and “Bright Days Of Glory”) and agreed to step in.
