First…the name… "W.E.T" is the acronym for the bands comprised of this sensational new project. Introducing Robert Säll, guitarist of Work of Art, Erik Martensson of Eclipse and Jeff Scott Soto, singer of Talisman. What do these three guys have in common? War Without End
These guys are all pretty young, most probably not even born yet when bands like Megadeth, Metallica, and Exodus first started cranking out this type of music. Don't let that dismay you though, as Warbringer have obviously studied their Bay Area thrash very well, War Without End being a solid throwback to that era. Musically, this thing reeks of early Exodus, Testament, Heathen, Death Angel, and Metallica, with razor sharp riffs and solos from Adam Carroll & John Laux flying all over the place, pummeling drum blasts courtesy of Ryan Bates, rumbling bass from Andy Laux, and the Chuck Schuldiner-ish vocals of John Kevill. Hard to pick highlights from this ripper, as each tune is more than solid in its own right, but ones to look out for are "At the Crack of Doom", "Total War", "Instruments of Torture" (complete with plenty of mosh sections like it was 1987 all over again!), and the insane frenzy of "Born of the Ruins".
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by none other than the legendary thrash producer Bill Metoyer (Slayer, Sacred Reich, Dark Angel, Fates Warning, DRI, Corrosion of Conformity, Armored Saint, Morbid Angel, and many others), War Without End is a fantastic sounding thrash CD, and a great reminder of how lethal the mid-80's thrash scene was. With up and coming bands like Warbringer bringing the goods, and veterans like Exodus & Megadeth making triumphant returns,we might just see a resurgence of the genre yet.

Songs like "When We Pray" and "Obey" are perfectly showing the heavy side of Warrel Dane, while melancholic hymns like "Your Chosen Misery" and "Brother" along with the great SISTERS OF MERCY cover show the side of Dane that has been deeply influenced by the Goth scene. WATCHMEN hails from Argentina and the info at their website says that this album has been already recorded way back in 2006. No idea why it didn’t found the way over to Europe, cause we’re talking about prime time 80s melodic hard rock with a distinct BURNING RAIN / WHITESNAKE influence, paired with the commercial overtones of 80s US melodic rock like HARDLINE or BANGALORE CHOIR. Well produced and played this is indeed a very nice surprise and should find a good home at every melodic- and hard rock collection.

That’s indeed a pleasant surprise from the classic British hard rockers, cause I found their previous album “Back From The Dead” lame as a duck and pretty much lost in nowhereland in terms of the songwriting. “Harsh Reality” is of a much higher calibre and really hits the spot and keeps hitting it after it has begged for mercy. Fin, Pete, Chris and RD sound as if they have been given a coffee colonic right enough and perhaps the shock of some healthy living has them producing the edgiest and evilest rock magic since the best moments of their heyday...and then some. The melodies are stronger and pinned down from underneath by Pete's bass zooming and zinging against Paul's rock drill drumming. Chris's geetar playing is just awesome, the band just sounds so...together. As for Mr.Fin, well the lyrical whimsies are still there but listen to that voice!

Coming from a strong progressive rock pedigree in the seventies with his stints as lead singer/bassist in King Crimson, touring with Roxy Music, briefly with Uriah Heep, and the short lived prog-rock supergroup UK (with Allan Holdsworth, Eddy Jobson, Bill Bruford, and later as a trio with Terry Bozzio replacing Bill Bruford and Allen Holdsworth departing not to be replaced). In the eighties Wetton shifted his focus slightly to what could best be described as prog-pop or possibly "Arena-Prog" with the early eighties MTV arena rock supergroup juggernaut, Asia. With 1995's Battle Lines Wetton shifted even further into the pop realm with his brief foray into the realm of adult contemporary music in an attempt to attract some new listeners and perhaps make himself a bit more accessible. The Athenian trio released its first full-length right before the end of 2008, showcased its talent in the hard Rock roots and it’s quite interesting to see a young band perfoming their favorite music. Wheelrunner was formed in 2001 and two years released also their first 6-track demo. After numerous live performances, the band released in 2003 their second demo titled “Rock 'n' Roll Lover”, including 6 tracks, while in 2004 the band was searching for a label and released a three-track promo, simply entitled “Promo 2004”.
In their debut full-length, Wheelrunner deliver in-your-face hard Rock with energetic and’ atmosphere. The whole result is quite professional, proving that the trio from Athens is really watching their steps. Songs like “Proof Of Love” are sending the message to the fans and prove that the band is really explosive when playing live! I witnessed their energy myself when I attended their headline performance in RETHYMNO ROCKS! Festival #1 and I can assure you that their songs are made for their concerts!

Hollywood Rocks
Until the present day the very lively Rock music scene of Los Angeles during the 80s hasn't lost any of its cult like fascination. The Roxy, Whisky A Go-Go, Rainbow Bar And Grill on Sunset Strip und the Troubadour a little further south are the locations in West Hollywood in which the eventual mega sellers entered the stage and where they still hang around today every once in a while. This neighbourhood also seems to be made for a band like “Wheels Of Fire” and their band leader Davide “Dave Rox” Barbieri, who started his musical career as a keyboard player back in the early 90s in some local bands.
About ten years ago Dave discovered his passion for singing and to improve his skills he turned to Michele Luppi, who besides being a member of various bands, formerly of the Power Metal band Vision Divine and currently of the Melodic Metal act Killing Touch and the AOR project Los Angeles, is also active as a vocal coach. Before Dave made his dream of an “Old School” Melodic Rock album come true with “Wheels Of Fire”, he recorded the album "De Revelationibus Orbium Caelestium” with the Metal band Seventh Archangel in 2007. One year later “…As In A Deep Dream” with the Progressive Metal band Liquid Shadows followed. Beside the work in the studio Dave did a lot of gigs and meanwhile he is also a teacher for Modern Singing himself.
The foundation for “Wheels Of Fire” was layed back in 2006 when Michele Luppi heard some of Dave's demos and subsequently offered his help to record an album. Eventually Michele produced “Hollywood Rocks” together with Dave and Michele can also be heard playing grand piano and singing background vocals. The studio line-up is completed by guitar player Stefano Zeni, who is in a cover band together with Dave, Roberto Galli on bass, as well as Andrea Zingrillo on drums. Roberto Priori (Killing Touch, Michele Luppi's Heaven) took over the mix and the Mastering, and did an amazing job in delivering a great sounding record.
The songs of “Wheels Of Fire” are a captivating combination of all the elements that Melodic Rock and AOR fans love about this kind of music and that made these songs staples on mainstream radio twenty years ago. Pushed forward by powerful drums the mid- and uptempo rockers, like “Hollywood Rocks”, “You're So Cool”, “What I Want”, “Everywhere I Go”, “Live Again”, “The Reason”, “Relax” and “Rock The World” also shine with their melodic guitar riffs and a heathy dose of crystal clear keyboards. As expected the verses of the songs always lead to a super catchy chorus and are crowned with a guitar solo. Rock ballads have always been a big plus of the Melodic Rockers and so the band has paid very careful attention to the softer moments “I Can't Live Without You” and “Little Prayer”. They serve a decent portion of guitar power and the arrangements also include a grand piano, while the concluding master piece in this category, the bombastic eight minute epic “Love Nest” even adds a string section, making it a full blown wide screen listening experience. “Hollywood Rocks” is the very promising debut of a talented musician, who will also present his songs in a live setting over the next couple of months. White Foxx played an important part in the rise of the Philadelphia Metal scene in the mid 80s. Formed originally as PRECIOUS METAL in 1982, the group's first incarnation comprised vocalist Tony Harnell, guitarist Barry DeBenedetta, keyboard player Mark Soma, bassist Mike Regina and drummer Craig Soma.
As the transition to WHITE FOXX was made, Harnell had quit (winding up fronting Norwegian outfit TNT and later WESTWORLD) and DeBenedetta played briefly with WAYSTED as various members came and went. Indeed, guitarist Jeff LeBar enjoyed a spell with the group before replacing Michael Kelly Smith in CINDERELLA.
Eventually, WHITE FOXX seemed to stabilize for a while with Mike Regina being joined by vocalist / guitarist Mark Chasen, guitarist Jimmy Maropoulos and ex-CINDERELLA drummer Jim Drneck but the group underwent further personnel shifts as vocalist Rob Zucchi, drummer Rik Anthony and guitarist Reggie Wu came into the frame. In fact, Wu had been in contention for the CINDERELLA gig that ultimately went the way of LeBar.
During 1987, WHITE FOXX lost Rob Zucchi but were quick to fill the gap with former WORLD WAR III man Tipa Sparrs, in addition pulling in second guitarist Tucker Michaels (previously with WINTER QUEEN and BLIND DRIVER). The group cut a strong, four track demo (including the impressive 'Beverly Hills'), which gained a fair amount of press. Guitarist Reggie Wu would achieve much greater success in the ranks of fellow Philadelphia act HEAVEN'S EDGE.
BOTTOM LINE - THIS CD IS VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL FANS AND COLLECTORS OF 80s MELODIC HARD ROCK / HAIR METAL!! GREAT STUFF!!!

In 2001, Wicked Sensation for the first time stepped into the spotlight of the international hard rock scene with their highly praised debut album “Reflected”. Shortly after, Wicked Sensation was featured in the press as "The Newcomer" of the year, and compared - but not least because of the charismatic voice of Robert Soeterboek - with well known bands like Whitesnake. Their debut "Reflected" was named album of the month in the Rock It! magazine and brought the band exclusive, above average reviews and ratings worldwide. While touring Europe accompanied by the English band Dare, Wicked Sensation was able to demonstrate impressively their qualities as well as their outstanding live performance.
Numerous shows and festivals followed the tour with bands like Saxon, Saga, Nazareth, Roger Chapman, M3 classic Whitesnake, Axxis, Vanden Plas, and many others. In 2004 Wicked Sensation released the follow-up album "Exceptional” and Fernando Garcia (ex-Victory) took over the vocals. Once again, Wicked Sensation received outstanding reviews internationally and again was named "Album of the Month" in the Spanish edition of Rock Hard magazine. After several gigs with this formation the band called it quits in 2006 due to musical differences. Michael Klein (founder, songwriter and guitarist of the band) never really wanted to close the topic Wicked Sensation. So in summer 2009, Michael and original singer Robert Soeterboek got back together to arrange a new collaboration. Also joined by bassist and producer Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69) and drummer Dirk Bruinenberg (ex-Elegy/Bob Catley) the top-class album titled "Crystallized” was recorded.
"Crystallized" includes all the typical trademarks, which have made Wicked Sensation well known on their debut album, and flawlessly connects with the successes of the early days. Marked by the typical, strong production of Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69), songs ranging from the driving and catchy melodic rock tune to bluesy and soulful inflected songs are featured, all which characterize the typical sound of Wicked Sensation. Again, singer Robert Soeterboek demonstrates the utmost impressive qualities of his vocal performance. Furthermore, "Crystallized" also includes a guest appearance by no other than Helloween's singer Andi Deris. With the high potential hit record "My Turn To Fly", Deris together with Robert gives this song a "certain something" to let this one for sure become a catchy hit track. Even Dutch guitarist Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One) involved himself to give the album a real rock classic with "Gimme The Night", as well as keyboarder Eric Ragno (Graham Bonnet) contributed keys on "Give It Up".

Speed Devil
The Norwegian band Wild Side started out in late 2005. Formed by drummer Ronni Arntzen and ex-Pagan's Mind guitarist Thorstein Aaby. To complete the line-up, vocalist Paul Martin and bass player Johnny Myren was hired. Myren did not stay in the band for long, and in came a much more competent bassist, Stian Stensrud. In the beginning the band was mainly playing cover tunes, but a couple of original tracks also surfaced. Early 2007 a two track demo featuring Nite Show and Calling Past was recorded. Shortly thereafter Aaby's health got worse, so the band decided to get a stand-in guitarist. Tom Grana, and old friend of Stensrud joined the ranks. This worked out really well, so the plan was to go for a twin guitars attack when Aaby got back. Unfortunately that never happened, cause on July 24th 2007 Thorstein Aaby died of cancer. In November of 2007 the band entered Ronni Le Tekrö's(TNT's legendary guitarist) Studio Studio to record their debut album, Indication. But some problems followed, and the album wasn't released until October of 2008, then only in Scandinavia . Enter 2009 and things looked promising for the band; WildSide recruited a second guitarist, the highly skilled youngster Jon Aarseth, adding an extra dimension to both studio and live performances of the band. But shortly after singer Paul Martin decided to quit due to personal reasons. But WildSide turned the change into something good, and in came the enthusiastic Joachim Berntsen. After some very well received gigs the band went into the studio again to record their second album Speed Devil. This time in Klyve Lydstudio in Skien , Norway . The production was done by the band themselves, while the mixing was done by King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRoque at his Sonic Train Studios in Sweden .....Speed Devil marked a huge step in the right direction. So watch out, folks!

This was a shortlived band from London who went onto to bigger and better things later on. Initially a project which saw the lineup of the Overland brothers, Booty, Soussan and original drummer Pete Jupp. Highly melodic in nature, the band's style of polished but typically british melodic rock saw them swing a deal with the Chrysalis label. Wildlife released their debut 'Burning' in 1980. After this album, Jupp left to hook up with the band Samson, while his replacement was Ralphs bandmate Simon Kirke. This time around they cut an arrangement with Led Zep label Swansong for the release of their sophomore effort 'Wildlife' (1983).
If you can imagine an earthy version of FM crossed with Bad Company's AOR material, then you'd be halfway there. The band became FM two years later and there is no doubt that every FM fan needs a copy of this great album.

The United Kingdom has never been short on hard rock talent. The new wave of hard rock bands coming out of Europe, and in the case of Wired Desire, from Scotland, gives me high hopes for the future of rock. One band that is making a lot of noise as of late is the five piece group, Wired Desire. This amazing quintet has the hard edge of AC/DC, the swagger of Guns �N Roses, and a great sound that should help pave their path to success.
The band has youth on their side (the average age of WIred Desire�s five members are 21) and are showing a ton of promise with their new EP, Barely Illegal.
Daly has a great rock voice. He has that rough edge style that I love to hear. The guitar tandem of Jam and Eddy are already making names for themselves in their young career.
The record labels (what is left of them) ought to be lining up to sign these guys, and get it done quickly.

Simply one of the most sought after AOR albums ever. Primarily a project to showcase the talents of gorgeous singer Debbie Davis, and by crikey this girl can rock! She has the power of Alexa, mixed in with a bit of Sharon O'Neill on the softer stuff. The backing band I'm sure is a bit of an after-thought, as many of the industry's heavyweights play all over this album instead: Brad Gillis, Tim Pierce, Neal Schon and Steve Smith from Journey, and Danny Chauncey. No surprise then with the album being recorded at Fantasy Studios, home of Kevin Elson. He and Bill Drescher throw their production talent into this venture and give it the class which lifts it head and shoulders over mostly everything released during 1988. Make no mistake – this album is right up there as one of the premier AOR/melodic rock releases of all time. Digitally remastered.

Two years ago, we heard from Wizards' Hymn after the release of their independent demo “The Call From the Unknown.” That demo really put a damper on the future of the band, as production was simply put, pitiful. After working hard and slow to perfect the right sound, Wizards' Hymn is back with their debut release “Hymnal.” The female fronted Japanese power metal band has improved tremendously with good production this time around and with Tsutomu Aruga shredding guitar whipping some ass throughout the CD makes a great improvement in the future of the band.
Guest keyboardist Junichi Otsuka is overflowing with brilliance, as he will reap the rewards on “Hymnal.” The music on “Hymnal” is some of the best Japanese power metal I have heard but the draw back with many from the land of the rising sun is vocals. Kimiko is good but the heavy accent and the high pitched vocals make it hard to keep up with. Let’s get to some of the CD “Firestorm” is a killer tune in the vain of Judas Priest with Aruga giving a big dose of molten guitar and not forget that thumping bass riffs by Toshimasa Kato don’t hurt. Another track that is off the wall is “The Circle of Fate” it’s just memorizing music that is astounding. There is some fantastic music to be heard and could be a perfect five stars yet the vocals are holding Wizards' Hymn back from success.

Well what can I say about this one then? Absolute corker! Starting out as a Toronto outfit named Telleman they ended up with this horrible handle Wrabit. Just as well the music is superb AOR from a time when Canadian acts ruled supreme. Following on from their acclaimed debut 'Wrough And Wready' 'Tracks' (1982) is a vast improvement (and thats on the back of a superb debut in any case!!), with a more dynamic lineup, superb songs, and the talented Paul Gross at the production helm. Precedings kick off with all guns blazing on 'Run For Cover', with guitars and keyboards duelling all over the show. The epic 'Soldier Of Fortune' follows on in grand style, while other songs to show up include the brooding 'See No Evil', and the radio friendly 'Don't Lose That Feeling'. Overall a classic from start to finish – every home needs a copy !
