"Nomad" features a allstar lineup including Doogie White (Yngwie Malmsteen), Jochen Mayer (CASANOVA, DEMON DRIVE, DOMAIN), Frank Kraus (DEMON DRIVE) Paul Logue (Edens Curse), Holger Seeger (Midnite Club) Born in New Hampshire and growing up in New England, Iain cut his teeth on the heavier British Blues Rock Bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Bad Company and guitar players like Beck, Blackmore and Hendrix. Later seeking to develop his musical vocabulary he studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he expanded his musical realm into that of jazz improvisation, eventually to return to the fold of Rock and Blues. Iain comments, "There was something about the pull of ones roots and missing the power that comes with simplicity. Relocating to Los Angeles, he spent a year as a student at Musician*s Institute in Hollywood. "More of an excuse to get settled into LA"..."I skipped all the main classes as I already knew all that stuff from Berklee and basically just hung out and played with Joe Diorio, Frank Gamballe and Scott Henderson." At the end of the year, he was invited on as an instructor which he did for the next six years.

Alive in Athens was recorded on the nights of January 23rd and January 24th in Athens, Greece. Iced Earth was the only band who played at the Rodon Club those nights, and they performed in front of sold-out crowds (of approximately 2000 people) both nights.
Iced Earth did not want to make a standard, run-of-the-mill live album; they wanted to make something truly special for the fans to own. Thus, they played two vastly different sets each night, as part of a plan to release a live package with the majority of their catalog on it. The finished product will be a three CD set, containing at least three hours of music. For those interested in vinyl, there will be a five-disc boxed set available. In the U.S., a shortened two CD version will be sold in stores due to cost restrictions. However, the full three CD version will still be available through Century Media mailorder. The band recommends all fans who want the original and complete version to order it rather than buying the two CD version.

Night Of The Stormrider Reissue
Iced Earth's second effort is a concept album with a mystical, horrific story line. It traces the path of a man who is betrayed by religion and turns away from it in anger. The dark forces of nature reach out to this enraged man and use him as their vessel to bring death and destruction to Earth. Through it all, he feels no remorse for his deeds, and upon reaching the end, numbly accepts his fate of eternity in Hell. Musically, the band picked up a new singer and drummer for this album. The singing is a definite improvement from the debut, ranging from a powerful growl to a Halford-like scream. Such skill is necessary to portray the wide range of feeling on this album. There's quite a bit of background keys on this disc, some choral moaning, and a memorable piano outro, which all add to the dark mood. There are also several excellent acoustic passages seamlessly interwoven with the driving guitar riffs. The music meshes perfectly with the story, magnifying the hatred, manic joy, confusion, and sadness present in the lyrics. After listening to this musical masterpiece, one cannot help but to feel some of the sadness and guilt that the Stormrider was unable to feel for himself.

Iced Earth continues to mature and evolve with their fourth release. "The Dark Saga" is a concept album based on the popular Spawn comic book series. It tells the story of a man who sells his soul in order to return to his true love on Earth. But he soon discovers that she is married to his own best friend. He is left completely alone in the world, and although he has good inside, he is influenced by dark forces. Everything that he desires is denied, even his own death. Fans of earlier Iced Earth albums might notice the change in the musical style to fit with this dark love story. The focus is less on technical musicianship (although the playing is still as impeccable as ever), and more on creating a complete story through sound and words. Thus, the music is generally more dark, emotional, melodic, and simple than other Iced Earth albums. This is not to say that the songs are uninteresting; to the contrary, some of the most amazing Iced Earth songs appear on this album. ILIUM formed first as ILIAD in 1998 hailing from OZ the gates of Newcastle (Australia) the band draws heavily from tradition heavy metal bands, like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Scorpions and Saxon, plus power metal bands such as Helloween, Rage, Running Wild, Iced Earth, Metal Church, Jag Panzer and Gamma Ray, with the bombastic styles of Blind Guardian, Savatage, Axel Rudi Pell, Rainbow and Nightwish, the technicality of Megadeth, Coroner, Toxik, Fates Warning, Symphony X, Angra, King Diamond, Riot and Realm, and the otherworldly qualities of Rush, Uriah Heep and Magnum. Forged into one magnum alloy!
Comprised mostly of members of Oracle including guitarist Jason Hodges, bassist Michael Noonan and vocalist Mark Snedden; and the addition of former Oracle member, multi-instrumentalist guitarist Adam Smith. In 2002 the band changed their name to Ilium commencing recording their self-titled EP with Dungeon leader Lord Tim producing. The EP was released in 2002 and received positive press, which encouraged the band to produce their debut album, Sirens Of The Styx in 2003.
Comprised largely of old Oracle songs, the band began moving in a more melodic but equally powerful direction. Just prior to the commencement of recording the second album Permian Dusk (2005), Mark left the band and Lord Tim stepped in to sing on short notice. The result was very positive, with Rock Hard! Magazine in Germany scoring the album 9.5 out 10.
Lord Tim returned to sing on the third album Vespertilion (2007) with Tim Yatras of Lord (Lord Tim s post-Dungeon band) performing drums. Due to time restraints however, the band were forced to look elsewhere for a vocalist, securing the services of Mike DiMeo (Riot, Masterplan). The band, by the time they had released two albums with Mike DiMeo on vocals ( Ageless Decay (2009) and Genetic Memory (2011) had become very much accomplished songwriters, with Adam Smith s excellent arrangements and Jason Hodges epic lyrics and concept-songs.
Mike s departure opened the doors for legendary vocalist Lance King (Balance Of Power, Pyramaze, Avian) to take over. Lance's style was very much what the band were looking for on the final product, My Misanthropia (2015) will prove to be their most accomplished works yet.

For vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth, the duo at the heart of In This Moment, change came unexpectedly when they found themselves rebuilding the walls around their foundation.

In April 2003 the band recorded a raw and brutal three-track demo entitled 'Fucking Demo'. The track 'Death By Command' was included on the 'Metal Crusade Vol. VIII' compilation of the German "Heavy Oder Was!?" magazine. After hearing the demo, Battle Cry Records decided to sign the band immediately. In July 2004, Insane flew to Vancouver (Canada) to record their first full-length album: 'Wait And Pray'. This particular brand of music owes a great deal to these forefathers of thrash metal, but on this particular album there's an omission in twin guitar assault and catchy hooks. Therefore 'Wait And Pray' is good but not tht good. Every fan of eighties thrash metal and especially those who adore Slayer's 'Show No Mercy' or Sacrifice's 'Torment In Fire' will definitely love this album. Just check the song titles ('Metal Torment', 'Evil Is At Hand' or 'Death By Command') and cover artwork to get an impression of what I'm talking about.

English metal band Intense has been plugging away at their craft for 20 years. Now signed to Germany's Pure Legend Records, the band delivers their third full length album, The Shape of Rage. While 20 years only puts them back to the early Nineties, one listen to this disc find that their roots go deeper into the earlier. The Shape of Rage is blistering platter of old school Metal mixing heavy, speed, and power metal in a melodic wrapper, pushed by a driving rhythm section and twin guitar attack.
From the gate, Intense is, well, 'intense' offering a songs that clip along at fast and heavy pace. Anubis, The Elemental, and One Man's Word gallop along, leaving little time for catching your breath. Lightning guitar solos pepper each song. Once you get to For the Fallen, Intense, in terms of speed, lightens up quite a bit. It's a heavy, steady, piece nuanced by vocals over light guitar and drums, and a smattering of acoustic guitar. But, don't dismay it cranks up with some big riffage and more guitar solos for an epic feel.
Save Me from Myself, Lie, and the title cut return to racing speed, typical of the album. But they also express how easily Intense can deliver bombastic riffage in a truly melodic arrangement. While the speed side of the band is quite evident and exciting, they're even better when they tone things down or simply merge them with more steady metal as on Maidenesque sounding song, Haunted. (Note the bass segment just before four minutes also). Skull of Sidon II delivers a similar arrangement, sublime and steady at first, but then breaks out with speed midway. The result is a song with an epic feel.
For pure and classic heavy metal, with equal parts speed, power, and melodic metal, Intense's The Shape of Rage delivers the goods. Fans of 'true' metal should buy this straight away. Up the Irons!

In the mid-eighties, bands like Sortilge, Blasphme and Nightmare released true masterpieces of melodic metal and stormed the charts with them, be it in their native country France or in far away Japan . It is no coincidence that INVICTUS came from exactly the same region in northern France : Four dedicated musicians have lined up to revive these great moments of French stainless steel.
In 1996, guitar player Mikael Fitrzyk formed INVICTUS (then, under the name QUARK7), soon after he gathered other musicians around him. Even the first musical pieces, still influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen, UFO and Savatage, impressed fans with their elegant and original mixture of Progressive, Symphonic and Melodic Metal music. The music and the band carried a fair amount of aggression, everybody could witness that at the first INVICTUS live gigs, where fists flew regularly, the result of that in many places, they werent allowed to play. But, hey, thats RocknRoll...!
After some line-up changes, QUARK7 produced their first album "Fly Away" which didnt get the attention it would have deserved. In 1999, they released "Once Upon A Time" under the name of Invictus, again self-produced, and finally, this, together with a remarkable, multilingual website (12 languages!) aroused massive interest of some underground labels. Outstanding reviews from all kinds of magazines from Norway , Japan , England , Germany , Sweden and Brazil finally lead to a distribution deal with Black Cat. In February 2002, they locked themselves up in the Melody Studios in Paris to record their third album "Black Heart" with the help of producer Didier Chesneau and the two guest musicians A. Ribot (keyboards) and S. Grare (backing vocals). At the same time, they signed a deal with Limb Music Products. On "Black Heart", INVICTUS present themselves audibly matured.
On "Black Heart", INVICTUS presented themselves in fine fashion. The French have shaken off the state of being the diamond-in-the-raw, the eternal inside tip, and they convinced with a powerful and bombastic production. Indeed, as far as production standard and hit potential are concerned, songs like `Redemption, `Wonderland or `Whispers could be on a Nightwish or Stratovarius album any time. In spite of all catchyness, INVICTUS have kept their independence and skillfully weave progressive and symphonic parts into an atmopspheric tight sound full of elegance and musicality (e.g. `The Choiceor `Miracle). This truly original band offers a stylistic range and enormous joy of playing which is demonstrated very clearly by the goose bumps-evoking ballad `Since The Day and the hard, driving `Car Crash. In short: with "Black Heart", we experience the pure renaissance of French Stainless Steel!

FEAR OF THE DARK
Once again Maiden deliver another excellent promotional box set which along with the magnificent Best Of The Beast promo box are the two best and extremely rare promo Maiden items in the world.
I suspect that not too many fans will have heard of this or seen any pics but it is my pleasure to get this one on the site for all you collectors and fans to see.
I haven't seen this one up for sale for a few years and no wonder! Any copies on the market are quickly snapped up.
Read on for more info.
The box itself is roughly 12'x8'x2' in size. The picture opposite is the box on its edge. The cover (above) runs from left to right and open like a book. The contents sit in a black tray.
What's really nice about this piece is that the cover actually Glows in the Dark! So when a light is shone on it and turned off the box gives off a eerie green glow.
As with most notable Maiden promos a lot of work and effort has been put into this one and it is definately one for the hardcore collector.
As you can see from the pic opposite this is a rather lavish promo set which is numbered and contains a fine array of Maiden goodies which include:
1. Full album CD
2. Interview cassette with Bruce
3. Fear of the Dark EPK video
4. Mini numbered poster
5. Full colour press booklet
Looking more closely the items that stand out are the Press Booklet, the EPK video and the Bruce interview.
The Press Booklet is fronted with the album cover and this time not a Derek Riggs Eddie but nonetheless and very good representation of the bands Mascot, emerging from a tree. Inside is a four page retrospective of the band plus the usual pre-album typr hype. There are a few colour pics of the band also. On the cover of the booklet, in the bottom left hand corner, is the issue number of the box. My particular issue number is 0929 which perhaps indicates that there are 928 previous copies but since this is a promo I very much doubt that more than 100 where issued.
This promo was issued in May 1992.
The Interview Cassette is Bruce talking about the album and the introduction of Janick to the band plus other thing and runs for about 20 minutes. Interesting.
The EPK (electronic press kit) video on PAL format is introduce by that man Dickinson who is walking through Steve's garden, holding a flaming torch with the mist and fog swirling around him. He then goes onto talk about robbers and murder and takes us into the pub that Steve built. The appropriately named Horse and Cart. From there each band member is interviwed including Nicko in a telephone box! The tape runs for about 15 mins.

Reissue. Two CDs. Rock in Rio is a live album by British heavy metal icons Iron Maiden, recorded at the Rock in Rio festival, Brazil in 2001 on the last night of the Brave New World Tour. The band played to approximately 250,000 people; the second largest crowd of their career (the band''''s largest concert attendance was their 1985 Rock In Rio performance to an audience of 300,000) and with the relatively recent return of lead singer Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith to the band, they recorded their fifth live release. It features many of their most well-known tracks, including the eponymous "Iron Maiden" and "Run to the Hills," along with six songs from Brave New World, such as "The Wicker Man" and the title track. Also performed were two tracks from the Blaze Bayley-era, "Sign of the Cross" and "The Clansman".

Limited six CD set. As far back as 1978, Piet Sielck formed Gentry In Hamburg with childhood friend Kai Hansen, eventually morphing into Second Hell, which also featured drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg and bassist Markus Grosskopf. The latter three, without Sielck, would go on to find massive global success as Helloween. Fast forward to 1996, and Iron Savior took shape when Sielck re-joined forces with the by now ex-Helloween guitarist Kai Hansen, together with Blind Guardian drummer Thomen Stauch. Sielck had also previously produced the debut record from Gamma Ray, the band Hansen formed after leaving Helloween in 1989. Iron Savior based their albums around an elaborate science fiction story that evolved with each release. This box set is bolstered with the addition of eleven rare bonus tracks taken from various releases during the years 1997-2004, as well as detailed liner notes from respected German writer Lothar Hausfeld. Often compared in style to the likes of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, this box set contains no less than four Priest covers, as well as additional covers of songs by Black Sabbath, Nazareth, Helloween and Krokus, as well as Seal''s ''Crazy''.

Issa is a 26 years old girl from Oslo. Since she was 17 she started working her way into the music business as a demo singer for different labels in studios all around Norway. At 19 she won a competition with almost 150.000 votes singing the song Fade Away written by Stian Aarstad, who was earlier a member of Dimmu Borgir. The song got released on a record in cooperation with tv channel Fox Kids.
Somehow people just love listening to this girl sing and she soon hooked up with Gaute Ormaasen from the Norwegian Idol Show touring with him. Ivory's music is a combination of melody, technique and musical elegance, with particular attention to sound, arrangements and executions: the result is just what Ivory are at it's best. Their melodic metal, influenced also by progressive, hard rock and power metal style, has it's roots in Turin (North of Italy) between '98/99, but only during the summer of 2005, after some troubles that made every single step very slow, the band recorded the promo-CD Atlantis Falls. The lyrics are influenced by ancient history and mythology, but with many actual themes and personal experiences that can be found reading between the lines. It immediately had lots of amazing rewiews, and so the band had the right spirit to carry on composing new songs for a full lenght album. Now, this is an interesting release. German metallers IVORY NIGHT first caught my attention with their appearance at 2007�s KEEP IT TRUE festival. Then the band grew higher in esteem, for being the �backing� band for SAINT (legendary White Metal band) singer Josh Kramer�s 2005 German Tour, plus ultra admiration was created seeing them joining ROSS THE BOSS BAND for selected European dates in 2006. Now, as regards music itself:
Having already delivered a limited edition EP in 2003 plus the good 2004�s "7 - Dawn Of The Night" full-length, this year�s "Machine" sees the band further developing their �melodic� Metal sound in many extended fields. Beneath a mystique yet charming cover artwork, eleven tracks propose a conceptual differentiation for what we�d call �German Metal�. The band deals equally with classic Metal, on-the-edge Power/Thrash and experimental add-ons. Yes, do not worry. "Machine" surely is a Metal album. I can see the influence of the MAIDEN/PRIEST archetypes in the band�s music but a more fresh and powerful sound - as with MORGANA LEFAY or late 80s German Metal heroes SECRECY - leaning towards to �prog� Metal at times.
But, no, not the cultural Prog Metal you may think of. IVORY NIGHT seem to work hard on the spine of their songs. The tunes are technical (but not complex), varied in tempos, riffing and leads. The deeds of (80s) METALLICA and the silent lunacy of MEGADETH �float� here and there while Patrick Fuchs� vocals are excellent, with passionate singing all around plus theatric growls where needed. The production is superb (for a self-financed release) with all instruments sounding powerful and equal at mix. Songs like "The Shelf" (check the intermezzo �break�) and "Breath Of The Innocent" (a guitar tribute to the legendary WISHBONE ASH?) took my breath away plus I loved the mid-tempo straightforwardness of "Charon Of Styx" and the QUEENSRYCHE-ish attitude of "Fallen Father". And what about the Heavy/Thrash lightning of "Keeping The Lie"?
Now, check the band references in the three above paragraphs and build the picture. IVORY NIGHT is a band created by Metal fans willing to mix all of their likes/influences into the same blend. "Machine" is a fresh album, it is not �Nu� at all and - eventually - is a good proposal on how Metal music should sound in this (our) era. "Oblivia" now I hear again (a wonderful �acoustic guitar� driven ballad) and I feel fine with bands having such spirit nowadays.
