The New Machine
The V-Project is the brainchild of David Vaccaro, one of the denizens of the 1970s Boston scene that produced The Cars, J. Geils and Aerosmith, to name a few. “New Machine” finds Vaccaro mining familiar album-oriented-rock (AOR) depths with aplomb. Assisted by the ever dynamic Robin McAuley (McAuley-Schenker Group, Grand Prix, Survivor) on four tracks, Vaccaro has created a dynamic and authentic piece of late-70’s, early-80’s influenced guitar rock. “New Machine” does not break any new ground, but is a very listenable opus that dances around the edges of Southern Rock and 80’s Hair Metal at times. The highlights here happen to be the collaborations between McAuley and Vaccaro (“Exit Sign”, “Somebody Like You”, “You Don’t Care” and “Tangled In Your Web”). Also interesting is the Steve Miller cover “The Stake”.

All Those Strangers
Vain released their debut, “No Respect” in 1989 and their videos, "Beat the Bullet" and "Who's Watching You" were featured in rotation on MTV's Headbanger's Ball and Hard 30/Hard 60 programs. The band toured the USA and rounded out the year with a UK tour supporting Skid Row.In 1991, things were to take a turn for the worse for Vain, and it would be finances rather than grunge which claimed this glam metal casualty, as their label, Island Records, collapsed before the band could release their second studio album, All Those Strangers. West and Rickard left the band in late 1991. Guitarist Shawn Rorie and former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler joined the band, which was re-named Roadcrew. Although a major label recording did not materialize, many of the Roadcrew songs can be found on later Vain releases.

Enough Rope
Since their first album “No Respect” of the year 1989, VAIN are one of my personal favorites when it comes to Poser Rock. Six years after their last album “On The Line”, Davy Vain and his guys finally present a follow-up. In my opinion “Enough Rope” was worth the wait. Songs like the sleazy and punky “Triple X”, the “No Respect”-like “Hot Stage Lights” or the melancholic “Stray Kitten” are just a few of the highlights that VAIN-fans will discover on the new record. Well, and Davy Vain’s unique voice has lost nothing to its charisma over the last 20 years. Cool album! MARCO SPÄTH

Review:
No Respect is the debut from the California quintet known as Vain, and they kick ass! This band, along with Jetboy and the Sea Hags, helped solidify the San Francisco metal scene. I call their style hair/glam/sleaze.
Songs such as "Secrets", "Who's Watching You" and "Ready" really rock. No Respect is one of the best and most underrated albums of the 80's. They had the look and sounded great, they should have been famous! I give No Respect two thumbs up!

Chronicles Of Immortals
Welcome to a new dimension in the Vanden Plas universe! With their new work, “Chronicles of the Immortals – Netherworld,” the spectacular German progressive metal band has again shown artistic growth, continuing a pattern of development from album to album that we have grown accustomed to. In this case, the developmental step was a bit bigger than usual, due to the story behind the birth of “Chronicles of the Immortals – Netherworld.” Wolfgang Hohlbein, who with 43 million books sold worldwide is not only Germany’s biggest selling author but also a fan of VANDEN PLAS, suggested their creative collaboration: a rock opera for the stage based on his series “The Chronicle of the Immortals.” The result: “Bloodnight” (“Blutnacht”).
The libretto was written by VANDEN PLAS singer Andy Kuntz, together with Hohlbein and his manager Dieter Winkler, himself a respected author. The VANDEN PLAS team of Stephan Lill/ Günter Werno/Andy Kuntz composed 19 songs for the stage production. “Bloodnight,” with Kuntz in the lead role and the VANDEN PLAS musicians in the orchestra pit, celebrated a stunning premiere on the stage of the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern in 2012. 25 sold-out performances in the 2012 and 2013 seasons with standing ovations that never seemed to end speak for themselves. Overwhelmed by this success, Hohlbein responded by writing another novel; the story of “Bloodnight.”
The next step for the band was to turn the successful theatre piece into an equally successful VANDEN PLAS album. “Chronicles of the Immortals - Netherworld - Path 1” has 10 tracks comprising the first act of “Bloodnight.” “Path 2,” the second half of the album, is scheduled to bring the story to a conclusion in early 2015. Kuntz, in agreement with Hohlbein, adapted the stage version to fit an album format. On it he appears as the storyteller, so that unlike the stage production_he is not only the main character Andrej Delany but also embodies the roles of the other protagonists. In this way the story line is richer and more easily understood by the listener for whom the powerful visions from the stage production are not available.
The music of “Chronicles of the Immortals – Netherworld” is pure VANDEN PLAS. The songs are noticeably harder than in the stage version and many solos have been included that were too difficult to stage in the theatrical production. Amendments to some of the arrangements can be heard and some scenes have been completely rewritten. Thus, some large chorus scenes from the stage production reappear with stark intimacy on the album, while in other sections a lush orchestral accompaniment replaces the piano line that had led the action in the stage version. It is the details that make this album different from other VANDEN PLAS recordings. It is clearly evident that this album recounts the story from a newly staged theatre production, which makes the VANDEN PLAS music to “Chronicles of the Immortals – Netherworld” even more diversified and vivid.

Themes which play an essential role in our lives, such as death and immortality, are examined in the texts. Fans of the saga of the immortal Andrej Delãny may now enjoy its eagerly awaited continuation with "Chronicle Of The Immortals - Netherworld II." We remember that as "Chronicles Of The Immortals - Netherworld, Path I" ended, the perfidious plans of the dark Godmaker threatened to emerge. All seemed lost! Yet from within the pervading darkness shone a soft light.
Deliverance comes in the second half of the story, where the creative duo of VandenPlas/Wolfgang Hohlbein has merged again in top form. Struck down with a treacherous stroke from a cursed blade, Andrej Delãny finds himself in a maelstrom which threatens to crush him completely, along with his immortality. His adversary's devilish plot would force Andrej to misuse the power given to him so long ago. Andrej must decide to ascend to the Pantheon of the dark Gods and there to destroy the old Gods, so that the Godmaker can reign there for eternity. Despising that, he must pass through the gates to the "Netherworld," where a virtually hopeless path of shadow and danger awaits him that will most certainly lead him in the end to his own death.
The darkest hours of his now limited existence force Andrej to search deeply into his soul. What is immortality? Is its possession truly a worthy goal? Or does this gift condemn the possessor in the end to the painful loss of everything he has ever loved?
It is precisely this awareness, wrung out of him during his death agonies, which determine Andrej to strike out on the seemingly hopeless path to "Netherworld." There he hopes to find Marius, the son he believes to be dead, and to rescue the souls of the lost children from the darkness. There he also hopes to finally stand opposite the love of his life again. Thus will his "death" be transformed into the unique chance for him to live - and in his mortality, finally to be human.
Vanden Plas has always been open to remarkable and unusual ideas, and the collaboration with Wolfgang Hohlbein found fertile ground there from the beginning. The author who has sold more than 40 million books worldwide was long a big fan of the band. "Blutnacht" (Bloodnight), a stage production performed at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, was based on his series "The Chronicle of the Immortals." Hohlbein, his manager Dieter Winkler, and Vanden Plas frontman Andy Kuntz developed the story and Vanden Plas provided the musical realization. The reward was 25 sold-out performances during the 2012 and 2013 seasons and unanimously thrilled audiences.
With the current "Everyman - A Rock Mystery," Vanden Plas has managed again to successfully combine theater and rock music as it has over and over again in years past. This completely through-composed rock opera with lyrics in middle-English enjoyed huge success in Kaiserslautern, where it premiered in the 2014-15 season. As a result, it will not only be held over there for the 2015-16 season, but will appear in theaters in Münster and Innsbruck in the near future.

VEGA, featuring former KICK vocalist Nick Workman and the successful and respected song writing partnership of Tom and James Martin (House of Lords, Ted Poley of Danger Danger, Khymera, Sunstorm to name but a few) are about to take the Melodic Rock world by storm.
Their debut album “Kiss of Life” has been produced by John Greatwood (engineer for Tom Lord Alge of QUEEN fame) and mastered by the one and only Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69) and features 12 rock songs which mix classic Bon Jovi and Def Leppard, with a pinch of U2 and Journey.
Tom and James met Nick 10 years ago when KICK was supporting Thunder on the first of their farewell tours. In the time that followed, the guys had always wanted to work with Nick, and opportunity came knocking in May 2009. The two brothers and drummer Dan Chantrey met Nick for a second time at a U.K. rock festival. Conversations about movies and music finally moved on to the all important question…..”When are we going to work together?“. The answer ended up being the next day, and VEGA was born.

VEGA wrote 25 songs in the coming months and chose the best songs for recording. No expense was spared and a top UK recording studio was booked and in John Greatwood a producer with numerous UK and European top 10 albums and singles was on board! Following recording and mixing in October, Dennis Ward stepped up to the plate to put the final touches to the album, mastering it in his studio in Germany.

In addition to 18 Overkill full length releases, Verni has 4 releases with his side band The Bronx Casket Co. D.D. Verni continues "so why do a solo record....well I never really stop writing material,and after some time it starts to pile up and take shape and I wonder what it will be. In the past anything that was not Overkill material I would put aside for my other band The Bronx Casket Co, but when I starting pulling these songs together it was clearly not that, and I thought, OK I guess it''''''''s a solo record. The material was kinda Metal and kinda Rock and kinda Punk, so those really are my basic influences. In Overkill I take all that background and funnel it into our Thrash sound. But these songs were not Thrash but a combination of the other stuff. I would never really have an interest in doing a record that was thrash sounding outside of Overkill, I just don''''''''t think it could be any better. The fun is trying new shit and seeing where it goes for me. I could always do all the instruments myself as I have in the past on projects but thought this could be a good opportunity to try working with some new people. My wife was hearing me thinking out loud and basically said why don''''''''t you just call some guys who''''''''s work you like and see if they would be interested, and so that''''''''s what I did".

Springfield, Massachusetts-based unsigned metal band VICIOUS DISORDER has landed a song in the DVD documentary "Halloween: 25 Years of Terror", which was released by Anchor Bay Entertainment on July 25, 2006.
Three years ago, VICIOUS DISORDER (taking an idea and direction given to them from their business advisor Sullivan Bigg of Bigg Time Entertainment in Los Angeles) wrote a song incorporating the eerie classic theme music from the "Halloween" movies (written by John Carpenter in 1978). They recorded "Pure Evil" with producer John Ellis at Prism Sound in Acton, MA. The song was then submitted to the executive producers at Trancas Films by Bigg on behalf of VICIOUS DISORDER. The song was accepted and after some negotiations a deal was made. Along with the song being used in the documentary, the band has its own link in the special features section of the DVD menu. It includes a photographic slideshow of the band while the song plays

Victory was formed in 1984 from the remnants of the band Fargo. Bassist Peter Knorn, the two guitarists Tommy Newton and John Lockton and drummer Bernie Van der Graaf had all previously worked together in that band. After originally working with singer Pedro Schemm, and later Thunderhead frontman Ted Pullit, former Gary Moore- and Ted Nugent-singer Charlie Huhn became the band’s singer. The self-titled album originally appeared in 1985 on CBS Records to mild controversy because of the cover art: a scantily-dressed woman lying on her back with her legs spread, forming a V. The hype worked and the album made the charts.

Ground Zero
The Basis of Vindictiv started in early 2004 and is the brainchild of Stefan Lindholm. At an early stage Stefan contacted keyboard maestro Pontus Larsson and they started to work on some of the songs Stefan had laid down. They recorded a demo with Tommy Karevik (Seventh Wonder) and guitarist Johan Larsson (Johan and Tommy Band). The result was the 2005 demo and it met with some great reviews in Sweden rock magazine. However, Johan and Tommy decided to move on but Stefan managed to contact respected singer Goran Edman (Yngwie Malmsteen / Karma, etc) and, as he liked the songs, he put his heart and soul into making them fantastic. Bass player Nalle Pahlsson (Zan-Clan, Treat) joined the already impressive line-up and through Goran they got in touch with drummer Mikael Wikman, who played on the debut (ESM164). Zoltan Csorsz has since taken the stool and his fantastic drumming can be heard on “Ground Zero”.
Musically the band is everything you would expect and more from Sweden. Goran Edman sings his heart out on seven of the eleven tracks and his powerful pipes suit the band in a way that just can only be described as awesome. The guitar technique of Stefan Lindholm is as crisp and neat as ever, and he seems to effortlessly produce exciting riffs and melodies with nonchalance. His early years admiring and emulating the works of Malmsteen and Vai shine through but he does have a technique of his own that finds its way through. Keyboards play a vital role in the overall sound and there are plenty of “cat and mouse” keyboards throughout, and when in harmony, form a grand wall of sound. The inclusion of Oliver Hartmann and Mark Boals in the vocal duties is a clever one and gives the band a more interesting slant; their input puts the cherry on top of the cake. There is simply not a weak track on the CD and the huge leap forward in sound since the debut is unquestionable.
“Ground Zero” is a fantastic outing into Majestic Metal with the flawless guitar technique of Lindholm leading the way, of course backed by the pedigree of the band members. Vindictiv have taken a big step forward and have matured beyond all expectations.

History begins in the early 80's where the all the popular bands were arena-bands and most of them come out of the L.A. In a sleepy little town in Sweden, 4 guys grew up listening to the brand new kind of metal and hardrock that MTV and the independent recordstores offered them.
Bands like Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison, Van Halen, Aerosmith where highway of inspiration for this 4 guys (even though Klaus were more into the trash scene with bands like Slayer and the early version of Metallica, and didn't care much for those "hairbands" that were ruling the charts).
While growing up and starting their own bands, their paths crossed every now and then. Through bands like Marshal Kane, Abandoned Sphinx, Starsky, Sleazy Rose, Millhouse these 4 guys met, broke up, met again for about over a decade, until the day in 2005 when the time had come to form VIOLENT DIVINE.
Colored by their background and their musical sources of inspiration, VIOLENT DIVINE is a summary of all those years playing music, being on stage, playin the same records that they did when it all began... and the love they share for this kind of hard but melodic rock. One of the best debut albums from Germany ever”, Rock Hard Magazin wrote about NWOGHM, the first CD of the German metal band VIRON. After just one demo-ep the CD was released by a small Greek metal label and received very good reviews in all metal related magazines. Even the title appeared to be a bit polarizing, the CD surprisingly does sounded more like classic US Metal than like Teutonic Metal which often tends to be more “happy” sounding.
After the release VIRON played on several festivals including Headbangers Open Air and Swordbrothers Festival and did small tours and single shows with bands like Ruffians, Majesty, Sabaton or Morgana Lefay. And again they got tons of great reviews in the press, this time for being a great live band.
In 2007 VIRON added a song to the Manilla Road tribute compilation “The Riddle Masters”. This positive development in such a short period of time showed that their previous label wasn't able to handle VIRON in a necessary and needful way. So they agreed to let VIRON go. After receiving several offers, they signed with Metal Heaven in Summer 2007.
NWOGHM included all the songs the band had written until the day of entering the studio. What you hear on the CD is a reproduction of what the band sounded live on stage. On FERRUM GRAVIS the band again didn't use modern studio technics like triggered drums or amp-simulations. You won't find keyboards on the CD and it was mastered just as much as it was needful. Even though the way of recording is quite similar to the debut, the new CD shows a lot of differences.
Much more time was invested into the songwriting process and catchy refrains were a major goal. The CD again was produced at Kohlekeller Studio (Sieges Even, Killers, Crematory). After a month of recording and mixing, FERRUM GRAVIS has a clear and natural, but still powerful sound.
FERRUM GRAVIS shows a huge development of the typical VIRON style and it seems like they have created an album suitable for any metal fan. The style ranges from classic metal to thrash, even within single songs, but everything fits together very well though. They show that classic metal doesn't need to sound outdated, that true metal must not deal with dragons & swords or needs to contain “kindergarden melodies” and that melody and heavyness can go well together. With FERRUM GRAVIS, VIRON will break out of the metal underground.

Vixen''''''''s arrival showed that women could contribute valid musical endeavours and rival the male rock stars Formed in St. Paul Minnesota and based in Los Angeles during the late ''''''''80s the band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Janet Gardner, lead guitarist Jan Kuehnemund, bassist Share Pederson and drummer Roxy Petrucci. Attracting major management they signed to EMI records, issuing their debut album in 1988, which surprised many of their doubters by quickly achieving Gold status and allowing them to tour extensively. Buoyed by this flush of success the band returned to the studio to record ''''''''Rev It Up'''''''', produced by Randy Nicklaus (Shark Island) and released in July 1990. Receiving positive reviews, and achieving good chart positions, the album was regarded as a step above their debut signalling a significant musical development and a far more direct approach to the recordings. Rough and raw, the record contained a number of high points and helped to secure them a following beyond North America, touring with Deep Purple and KISS. Sadly, however, due to the eventual emergence of grunge and management problems the band''''''''s initial run was short lived and they elected to split up at that point rather than carry on in the face of overwhelming odds. Versions of the band continued the work later, and still do, despite Jan kuehnemund passing away in 2013.

Danish metallers VOLBEAT will release their first-ever DVD, entitled "Live: Sold Out!", on February 15 via Mascot. The double DVD digipack with an eight-page booklet includes concert and behind-the-scenes footage shot at everything from small venues to festival appearances to the band's support gig with METALLICA in Denmark.
VOLBEAT has been nominated in the following categories at the annual Danish Music Awards (the Danish Grammy Awards equivalent):

"Rock The Rebel / Metal The Devil" entered the Danish chart at No. 1 upon its release in late February and stayed in the Top 5 for three months.

Voyeur are compiled together from various lesser known local Bay Area hair bands. Like most bands when starting off, Voyeur had dreams of world domination. Unfortunately Voyeur were just another late 80's hard rock group with amazing talent that were continuously overlooked by major labels.
