AIRKRAFT - In The Red + 2

While the band’s first two albums „Let’s Take Off“ and „Airkraft“ were released via an independent label only, things seemed to turn for the better with the third AIRKRAFT record. The band got signed by Curb Records and the production duties were handled by the experienced Roger Probert (a. o. FATES WARNING, LOUDNESS). Actually perfect conditions, but “In The Red” was released in 1991, the year when NIRVANA’s “Nevermind” changed the whole music market forever. Suddenly, there was no place left for a classic AOR/Melodic Rock band like AIRKRAFT whose sound was similar to acts like SURGIN’, SIGNAL and STARSHIP. Even great songs like the Judithe Randall penned “Someday You’ll Come Running” (also recorded by FM and MARK FREE) and “Love Has No Mercy” (also recorded by James Christian) or the Jack Ponti/Vic Pepe/Stan Bush track “Heaven” didn’t help anymore to make any big waves. Certainly the same applies for self-written tracks like the ballad “Somewhere”, the amazing mid-tempo tune “Say Goodbye” and the Melodic Rock anthems “Trouble” and “Tonight”. I don’t want to deny that the album had to struggle with some flaws, like the fillers “Oh No” and “85 M.P.H.” plus the decent cover artwork, but it would have definitely deserved a bigger attention than it received back then. The AOR HEAVEN CLASSIX reissue features a remastered sound by Chris Lyne, liner notes from Dave Reynolds and two bonus tracks (“Crimson Sunset” and “River Of Blues”) which work up your appetite for the announced comeback album.
